Anyone know if there is a "break in" oil change on this car? Should I change the oil sooner than the factory suggested 5000 miles? Just making sure I dont screw myself on the warranty

 

No break in period, but i never recommend going over 3000 miles between oil changes. Sooner ifyou drive harder.

EDIT: Just so you know, i still changed my oil for the first time at 575 miles. I have a mechanic shop, so $6 my cost is no big deal lol. I changed it again at 2800 miles.

 

There is no penalty in frequent oil changes. Going borderline to the max of an Oil's life though is not very good in the long run.

 

amen to that, im switchin over to mobil 1 0w30 when i hit 7500 miles and ill still change it ever 2500 miles

 

I got mine changed around 2200 miles too. The oil looked extremely clean though. I guess thats a good thing.

Any opinions on a k&n oil filter. I have a K&N air filter coming.

 

I changed mine at 2500 for the first time, and now it's time for the second one. I'm just above 5000. I'm trying to get synthetic, is it ok to swap now or should I wait longer??? Like the above mentioned 7500????

 

05gtbaby, they say to do it around 10,000 miles. 7500 is close enough for me. I get 0w30 mobil 1 at $0.00 a quart, so i dont really mind

I would not recommend 0w30 for the 4.0L V6-Ford requires 5W30 only-we have seen vehicles that have had oil changes with 5w20 oil that cause excessive internal engine noise from the cam chain areas, I cannot imagine that 0w30 would be any different.

 

5w30 should cover just as much as the 5w20. Therefore the 0w30 should cover more, is that not correct?

 

Had ford change mine at 800 and my local mechanic (good friend) do it at 1900 miles. Using nothing but Mobile 1 and Fram filters from here on out. I have a 94 Duster with 120,000 mile that runs and sounds like it did when new, no better oil then Mobile 1

The Motorcraft filter is about the same price as Fram. IMO, I'd rather use it over the Fram.

Just remeber, Ford builds cars, and to build a car you do it as CHEAP as you can. Fram makes Filters NOT cars. Realy it doesn't matter, quality synthetic oil and anyold filter is fine if you change it when it is due

I've seen tests where Fram was rated one of the cheapest filters in regards to materials used. And you're right: Ford builds cars AND they also set the specs for the filters. If anyone has a filter manufactured to correct spec, it'd be Motorcraft. I'll trust them LONG before I'd trust Fram (as a matter of fact I do: I use Motorcraft filters exclusively in my Mazda6).

 

Guess that's why there is chocolate and vanilla! Sorry, I should have kept my opion to myself. I should realize making a living repairing all brands of automobiles for over a decade means nothing, compared to brand loyalty. I am sure Fords oil wells make the best oil to. As I said, 3 months, 3000 miles and all else is probably moot.

Sorry about that, letting life vent out in the wrong location! You are absolutly correct, there was no call for my childishness. There is also nothing wrong with OEM parts and supplies! Please ignore my rantings.

FWIW, I used Fram filters for years and never had an issue but when I read the filter comparison, I switched the Mobil 1 filters (one of the highest rated) but got tired of paying the premium price. I finally settled on the OEM filters and have been using them ever since. They're a good compromise between performance and price.
