Finally can compare V6 to GT
#1
So a sales guy from one of our partner companies came into town last week, and he's known about my pending GT order for some time. He had the opportunity to rent a Mustang and brought it down to my office and threw me the keys. We took it around about 5 or 6 miles just to get a comparison to what I've experienced in my test drives of the GT.
My first obligation was to "light em up". I tried to powerbrake the car, but the engine wouldn't rev over 2,500 RPM even with it floored. Hmmm, 210 HP and I can't break them loose? Either I forgot how to powerbrake a standing wheelspin or there is something governing the engine to keep it from doing it.
As we're making all this racket in the parking lot, one of my co-workers pulls up in his black 05 C6 Vette and starts revving at me. So of course I gun it and just bury him off the line. Well, ok, he was busy putting a cd in his stereo and didn't actually put his foot on the accelerator until I was up to 30 Mph, but he still lost! Reaction time baby!
There's a nice winding road that's about 3/4 of a mile long just leaving our office. I can run it comfortably in my truck at about 50, I had the V6 Stang at 80 and wasn't even close to being concerned about losing control. Downshifts in the auto were just brilliant, what a great transmission. Couldn't get the back end to break loose or swing around intentionally around a corner, and yes the T/C was off.
Handling = Superb
Power = Not what I expected from a standing start
Power = Not bad at all from a rolling start
Altoid, don't respond. I don't care what you think or how you feel about it.

I thought the V6 is pretty fast too, that's why I'm buying one!

Nice to hear a GT'er give a good review on the V6. I can't say the car was really ever meant to do some of the more exotic muscle car moves that the GT can. I bought the V6 mainly for price and it's good to hear a solid review from someone first hand.

I test drove a V6 5-speed manual and let me tell you this car lauches really good and the peel outs were so easy. I didn't try to power brake but I bet with the 5-speed you can get it. The V6 has a lot of rev and jump off the line more then enough power especially for the insurance. The ride took the bumps just like my Fathers 05 GT and as far as the handling it is just fine (true not as good as the GT). This car is a steal for what the sticker price is going on them from the interior to the exterior. Oh and yes the exhaust sound I was really impressed with Ford tuned the V6 just like it was a V8 under the hood. I have driven my Father's old 96 GT and I believe this car is faster then the 94-98 models of course before mods.
On a scale of 1-10 10 being the best I give it a 10 Not a bad alternative to a GT as opposed to years past.
Can't wait to get my Sonic Blue V6

I can just imagine the flaming responses I'll get from this post, but IMHO the V6 is not the way to go. I had a rental V6 last week and tried the same things as noted in the previous posts. A dog off the line but responsive after 20 MPH. The ride was fine and the handling was okay.
The only reason I say a V6 is not the way to go was my test drive of a GT the week before. Granted, it was a 5 speed, but I was with the salesman and didn't get all over it like I did the rental. As you know, nothing parties like a rental, but that is a different story.
I drive a 94 GT convertible now and with all the extra side weight, it feels like the 05 V6 off the line.
So, having said the above, I can't wait for my 05 vert to get here!!! So far, it's kind of been like a date with your sister - you can take her out but you definitely won't be taking her home.

I love how the V6 drives, I got to test drive it 3 times, none with the sales man. I drove it with TLC; it's going to be someone car after all, the snow test drive was a little more aggressive in a local parking lot. I like how the back end as it starts to come around instantly settles down when you let off the gas, unlike big blocks rear wheel drives form the 70’s once you got the rear end coming around too much the whole car would spin like a top.
We never did get to test drive the Mustang GT, do you think I’ll like it?

I test drove a V6 automatic and I was very impressed.
The only reason I bought a GT 5 speed was that I think it may hold its' resale value better, due to less supply, and I trade vehicles very often.
BTW, I've owned some very fast cars, for example, Lotus Esprit, Mercedes E55 AMG, Mustang Cobra, Porsche 928, Toyota Supra, and many Corvettes.
I think the 2005 V6 Mustang is a "winner".

Add me to the list of V6 fans. Had a chance to drive a silver rental with the AOD today, and that little puppy can cook! As it was a rental, I was more than willing to ring the car for all it was worth, and having done so, I can say quite confidently that the answer is "more than the 20-23K it sells for."
Car pulls VERY well of the line. Almost V6 altima fast, at least from the SOTP feel. Sure it's down on power relative to the GT, but it's leagues above that wheezy 3.8 that was in my last stang (a 99 with AODE). What's more, I'd wager that the 05 V6 with a five speed would put up a very respectable fight with an unmodded 94-98 GT.
Nicely done, Ford.
I wish that every GT owner would drive the six at least once. Not just to pay homage to the car whose sales allow the GT to exist), but also to get a sense of just how fine a car the base model really is.

I will tell you my V-6 is an auto and that tranny is great--it truely is adaptive. I am close to 2000 miles now and there is no more of the hesitation that some have posted about.
My kids love it when I floor it and they both watch the speedo rise its funny to hear them 60-70-80 now 90 DAD SLOW DOWN!! Thats when I lay off. Its a very fun car to drive.

Wow! That's pretty impressive cars to compare to!
I think the V6 performance is a lot better with the 5 speed manual then the Auto.
Here's a link to a post about the Test Drive I took in one.....

I've driven big cars with about the same hp as the V6 Mustang, like a rental grand am or grand prix, they look the same to me, had a V6 and would bust them loose and was pretty quick.
I have no doubt the Mustang V6 will pack enough to make it not only a beautiful car but one thats also lots of fun to drive.
To be honest, I have not even used all 300hp in my GT. Hard to find anyplace safe enough to have any fun without risking a ticket or worse. It's nice to know it's there though.
