Escort G-Timer
#1
Hi folks
Since I don't really live near a drag strip, I'm hoping that one of Escort's G-Timer products will quench my urge to have some sort of idea of my 1/4 mile time when someone asks. Does anyone have any input on either the GT-1 or GT-2 model? I'm leaning toward the cheaper version because I'm not sure if the "advanced features" of the GT-2 are worth it. I've seen the GT-1 for as low as $100 plus shipping.
I already have an XCal2 and an old laptop and I suppose I could probably use those two together somehow to get a 1/4 mile time... or could I?
Here are a couple of links:
GT-1: http://www.thegadgetmaster.com/G_Timer1.htm ($150)
GT-2: http://www.thegadgetmaster.com/G_Timer.htm ($250)

I have the GT1 & I like it.
Never been to a dragstrip so I don't know exactly how accurate it is, but I think it's real close.
My best run (stock) was a 15.2 & that is about what most magazines are saying.
It seems to repeat pretty good also when doing repeated runs.
Just try to make sure your 1/4 mile is fairly level, as hill & inclines can screw with the readings.
I once did a run that started level & then went down this nice sloped hill. I think it ran a 14.4, but I don't consider that a realistic number.
My best is a 14.63 (not quite stock) that I backed up a few times that night so I believe that one.

Thanks for the info Arthur -- I'm glad to hear this thing actually works!
I just found a gently used GT2 on eBay for $125 and decided that was a good enough deal to make the decision for me.
What mods brought you down from 15.2 to 14.6? I'm curious what sort of times I should expect with my current mods (in sig).
