It is the same size going in. The biggest difference is the inside pipe, the V-6 is like 1.5" the GT is 2.5" so it is much less restrictive.

Which part is 1.5",
1)is it the pipe coming back from the cat,
2)the pipe where it connects to the muffler, or
3)the muffler where it connects to the pipe.
It sounds like its the muffler that's been narrowed(#3)! If so, that means a new muffler with a 2.5" opening would bolt right up to the 2.5" pipe? Is this true?
Man Ford is choking the life out of our 6ers!
How does the car feel with the less restrictive GT muffler? Any noticable increase in power?

It is the inside of the muffler, very chocked up compared to the 05 GT Muffler. It is a direct bolt-on otherwise. It sounds great, a little deeper tone and WOT sounds a bit louder but definately not the ricer can sound.
It did pickup a little lowend. I will be dyning a CAI, SCT tunes and exhaust on Tuesday so more to come !!
