eBRAKE REPAIR
If your parking brake cable broke because of frozen/rusted rear cables, you may be able to repair the front cable. Mine broke at the dowel pin end leaving most of the cable in good condition.
You need to replace both of the rear cables that go back to the calipers.
(this is a good time to turn the rotors and replace the pads)
Cut the front of either rear cable off about 6" from the front saving the dowel pin end. (you will need a bolt/cable cutter for this. wire cutters wont work)
After replacing the two rear, cables place the 6" piece with the cable facing the front of the car through the equalizer. (piece that rear cables attach to at the front.)you may have to spread the equalizer to get the cable dowel pin in the center hole. Place handle inside car in the off position.(all the way down) Go through the console door.(3" square plate at the upper left of the compartment just snaps out) and with a 10mm socket loosen the nut all the way out to the threaded end of the cable.
back under the car overlap the cutoff cable and the front cable and put 2 3/16" cable clamps like used on garage doors(available at ACE hardware) as close to the equalizer as possible and tighten. cut off excess of 6" piece and tighten the nut on the handle until you have plenty of e-brake resistance.
This repair may not last forever, but it's cheap and only takes about an hour to do.
Be sure to use caution when working under vehicle. Jack stands are a MUST. WORK AT YOUR OWN RISK.
