Dyno tune costs

Just curious, what have you guys paid for a dyno tune? I just got quoted $450 for a half day of tuning, I guess for 3 tunes. Is that about right, or maybe a little high? I want to get this done but jeez, that seems kinda steep.

Doug quoted me on 85$/hr for using the dyno. Not sure if that includes Doug's tuning but this was supposing that I purched the Xcal2 from him, said it wouldn't take more than an hour to tune.

This is based on a quote I got for an SCT2 along with a tune... Pricing the SCT2 @ $400 and tunning on the dyno at $200 bucks...
You already have an SCT2, so they are trying to pull a fast one.. Tell them $200 bucks or no deal.. Or better yet, find another shop and get a price quote.. Try 3 shops.. The one you feel has the best integrity, go with them.. Even if they want the most money.. $450 is high.. I say more searching is needed..

That price sounds alittle inflated.. I would think that $200 bucks should cover this..

I mean lets be serious. If they're charging 80$/hour. And it's like any normal business, open 8-10 hours a day. @ 4 hours that's only 320$. 5 hours is 400 based on hourly rates. But no, these guys want to charge you MORE money for buying MORE hours. How does that work? I mean think of everything you've ever bought ever. Since when is it MORE expensive to buy more? As far back as i can remember buying more meant paying less per unit.

I just paid $200 for a dyno tune for about 2 hours worth of dynoing and tuning. Remeber, the car has to cool down between runs, etc., and there are things to tweak. I got four pulls out of it. $50 a pull including tweaking things here and there may be cheap or it may be expensive, but Chris at Excessive is very good, and in this area he has the best tunes for the best price.
I gained 6 RWHP and 9 RWTQ just by switching from an 87 to 93 Octane Tune... So I am happy....
@ Jimp: $450 for half a day is not cheap but it does not seem outlandish. My question is if you need half a day or if 2 hours would work just fine. How much difference are you going to get with 12 pulls vice 6?

Travis over at Fast Specialties thought it might take a dozen pulls or so to really nail down a tune. I'd think that starting out with an excellent canned SCT tune (like from Doug or Lideo) might speed up the process quite a bit.

About what I paid. Basically, it all depends on the area. Excessive is probably the best shop in the area, with people driving from all over to get work done there. Some people love them and some people hate them, but it is never for the work they do. Sometimes personality conflicts arise, I think. It is what it is.

Yea, but for just for 3 dyno pulls with a/f reading, they charge $75, which is $25-50 cheaper than the other two shops that have dynos. Yea, I heard about the personality conflicts, and they were hard to approach at the car show, but once you do business with them a few times they are pretty cool. And will answer your noob questions.

So I guess our club dyno event is a pretty good deal at $50 for three pulls with A/F??
If I *don't* have enough time between pulls to swap out the air filter and change a tune, I might pay for 2 rounds so I can do a "stock air, stock tune, dual exhaust" pull and then a "C&L CAI, Lidio tune, dual exhaust" pull I'm not going back to the stock exhaust, sorry fellas....LOL
We'll see....with all the $$$$$$ you guys are spending on dyno runs, etc. I'll feel guilty if I *don't* hehehe If there is enough time, I'll probably pull the trigger....
