dual exhaust
Those V6 pipes look pretty large in diameter 2.5" to me.
The real gain in going to dual exhaust in the V6 will come from having 2 mufflers instead of 1, which will really free things up.
But you may be able to accomplish 80% of the gain just by going to a low restriction single muffler.

Capital Ford, Raleigh, NC offers duals to new '05 V6 Mustang owners for $450.00.
Will not void factory warranty. Does not (I think) come with two converters. Looks nice and sounds OK - undr high RPM, you can tell it's a V6.

this forum is sad from beginning to almost the end.. duels look cool and sound cool add some power if done right but some people have diff sound preferences not meaning their car sounds like crap.. i wouldnt put duels on a v6 personal preference but its up to you i think a v6 is a daily driver for everyone to see everyday gt is more what i wanna see only once in a while

I don't know if all Ford dealers do this. I was surprised that they even offered it. Funny, they did not mention it when I picked mine up.
It does not include the GT rear fascia. Several salesmen were unable to determine if the GT comes with true duals - two of everything, including the converters. Ford puts true duals on the V6 Lincoln LS.
The dealer is going to check with the installers to see if the $450 includes an additional converter - at that price, I don't think it will.
I'l let you know.
I saw a completed job - both mufflers were the same level and even through only the rear right has the notch for the muffler, it did't look that bad.

Spoke to guy that actually does the work. According to him, the Mustang comes with 4 converters - 2 for each bank - this conversion is truly dual exhausts. Also, there is no crossover, H- or X- pipe - that would add $50.00 to the cost. It would help equalize pressure and improve the system. I talked to a realy good body man and he said he could add an exhaust notch on the left rear side. I trust this guy - he's done work for me before. Hope this helps.

The GT comes with true dual exhaust. The 96-98's have 6 converters, 99-04 have 4 converters and the 2005 has 2 converters.
The 2005 V6 has 2 converters. The stock Y pipe is after the converters.
An H pipe improves sound quality at lower RPMs ( less than 3,000 ) and usually gives some low RPM torque improvement over not having any crossover pipe. A proper X pipe will deliver more HP and torque across the entire RPM range than an H will. However X pipes usually sound a bit strange at lowre RPMs (less than 3K) but can sound great at high RPMs.
I would suggest that those of you interested in putting duals on a V6 contact the exhaust vendors, Borla, Magnaflow, FRPP and others to see if they will be coming out with a dual kit. Although a good exhuast shop could make you up anything that you want and may actually be cheaper than an aftermarket kit.
Don't let anyone tell you that it's "sad or improper" to put duals on a V6. As someone stated above, the Lincoln LS V6 comes from the factory with duals as does the Jag S-type 3.0 V6. Many of the Euro-sedans BMW, Audi come with duals on their V6s although both pipes exit on the same side.

I had added Duals (Magnaflow no-cut direct bolt on kit for V6), Traction-Lok, Quad Shocks, and BFG KDWS Tires on my 2004 before it had 100 miles on it !! At 1000 miles I swapped out the crappy O.E. seats for 2004 Cobra Leather seats (front & rear kit) from Ford Racing Performance Parts.
Anyway, Magnaflow quality is very nice ... High Quality 400 Series Stainless Steel Mufflers & Mandrel bent Pipes with 304 Highly polished S.S. Tips. System sounds and looks great, well worth the $400 investment.
Personally, I'd hold off on investing in dual exhast for a 2005 until you see what Borla, Magnaflow, FRPP, and the others have to offer. On my prior '98 V6, I went the "cut-the Y pipe" route using a Pacesetter H-Pipe Kit and used O.E. '96 Cobra Duals. Got over 140k miles on the Cobra system, but the mild-steel Pacesetter kit rotted out at around 75k miles. The replacement H-Pipe did not fit exactly the same, so the tails hung crooked after.
If you are going to have a shop cut your stock "Y-Pipe" and put true duals (or H / X-pipe & duals) on it, make sure they use the O.E. type 409 (or better) Stainless Steel Exhaust Tubing. Do not let them try to talk you into Aluminized Steel.
Back to my 2004 ... Have also added an Underdrive pulley, O.E. Fog Lamps, and an SCT Microtuner with 3 tunes (89 Mileage, 89 Performance, and 93 Performance).
For under 20 Grand, I have a car that is very fun to drive with the comfort of a Cobra (seats), gets 26-29 MPG, and is reasonable to insure. I am still quite jealous of you '05 owners at the moment, but I made my choice back in January and will live with it for a few years before following in your footsteps. I have been considering finally getting a GT (this is actually my 3rd V6 - 5-Speed SN-95), but don't know if I could tollerate the gas mileage and added insurance cost for a car that sees 70% highway miles with the cruise on !! My foot is in it for that remaining 30% and that causes an itch for a GT ... maybe.

I would wait until the tuners (Saleen, Roush, Steeda, etc.) start selling the GT Take-Off bumper covers. With the '99-04, these Take-Off GT bumper covers were so plentifull you could even specify the color you want. Mind you no one was promising a still-perfect paint job after all the handing & storage ... but maybe a person could live with the scuffs or other minor damage as-is.
You may even be able to purchase Take-Off GT Exhaust Systems from some of these vendors as well. This however will probably not be as common as years past. Since Ford is now using mandrel bent pipes, it may be more common for the tuners to simply replace the mufflers only.

Just an idea... if you do the duals, order the rear bumper cover for a GT, have it painted and put on your car. Sure it'll cost you, but then you'd have the proper cutouts.

I wasn't saying to put duals on the car! I said that if he decided to, the GT bumper has the cutouts already there for the pipes. That's all. I didn't mention anything about putting anything on the car that said GT. Reread my post.
