dual exhaust
Personally, I think its a waste to do so. The reason Ford didn't put duals on the V6 is to give the two trim levels some unique features of each. IMO, i think its the cheesiest thing when V6 owners put duals on their cars, it makes me think that theyre too cheap to afford the GT.
On the other hand, yes you will gain some horsepower by doing it. It won't sound near as good as the V8 with duals, but it will sound different than stock.
Don't take this as me ripping you, just my opinion on it all.

Just an idea... if you do the duals, order the rear bumper cover for a GT, have it painted and put on your car. Sure it'll cost you, but then you'd have the proper cutouts.

It's my understanding there a quite a few mods you can do to the v-6
to gain power.

I have a friend who put dual exhaust on his 2001 V6 and it messed up his car. The loss of backpressure makes his engine knock on anything less than 93 octane. He's waiting for his warranty to run out so he can install a fuel management system to bring his gas back down to 87 octane.
Not worth it if you ask me.

get the duals and you will love it
you don't need to add duals... most times it's over kill cuz like DUSTINDU4 said.... it loses back pressure. There's NO NEED for a stock V6 to have a 2.5" Dual exhaust. I thought about addig a custom dual exhaust to me Tbird's V6 and after about a year of research I found that most times it's un necessary. I noticed improved performance from simply cutting the muffler off
Crazy ... yes. But it opened up the exhaust a little, but it didn't cause a loss of back pressure

here's a chart I found on TCCoA that might clear things up:

Thats a good idea Tsbird1994, how does it sound??

I'ts got a noticible "rumble" at idle... but still relatively quiet.
At part throttle it's got a louder Rumble.. and resonates inside the car
At WOT it's VERY LOUD but never gets "raspy" or "buzzy' like the import mufflers (and like alot of V6s with oversized exhausts)
I'm trying to arrange a time with my buddy when we're both home from college to get a sound clip of it.
That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard. Putting duals on a v6 will free-up the exhaust and will give you more power (not much but will give you a few extra ponies). Definately go with the duals, just don't have them running under the stock bumper like some sixers do...go with the GT bumper.

And this isn't rediculious
.... it's physics. the same idea was proved in the latest issue of MM&FF (they tested two types of headers on a motor and found that opening it up too much actually HURT the power gains. They ended up going with a 1-5/8" header RATHER than a 1-3/4")

Sounds great without a muffler!!
