So Ford adheres to this practice as well?
The auto industry has common practices and this i would think is one but no I am not 100% sure.

I still find this practice odd, what if there is a recall and a technician goes to look the part up on the vechicle, and it matches what is in the inventory system....thus he/she would think the recalled part was not installed in the vechicle.
I am really not clear on what you are trying to say/ask. I will just guess.

Sample example

Rygn if there is a recall on the older cam's per soft lode wearing (fiction/ could cause major engine damage/safety) reason for recall they will know which ones because the old ones in inventory will still have the old part number on them. The new improved ones with ship with the new superseeded number on them so you will know those are not the affected ones. So if they recalled the old cams you just go back and pull the ones with the old number if theres any left in stock.

The new cam superseeded number with now be the new part number for 74 - 76 Vettes will not be the recalled ones.
