I was looking at pictures of the GT and V6 engine bays side by side, and as far as i can tell, the stock air boxes are identical on both models. I was also looking at steeda's CAI for the 05 mustang, and it appears that it replaces only the stock air box, and not any other tubing. Also, the item descriptions says that it is for the "2005 Mustang" not just the "2005 Mustang GT". My question is, does anyone have any idea if this will work on the V6?

The Air Boxes are the same. The Mass Air Sensor is the same but the MAF transfer Function is different for the 4.6 3V -vs- V-6. The MAF Diameter is larger on the GT 70mm -vs- 79mm. Most aftermarket CAI have a slightly larger tube(Steeda 85mm) this would be to large of a diameter change for the smaller V-6 unit and require some tuning to keep from going to lean. So yes you could run it but it would require sometuning adjustments.

I made one my self using a cheap honda cai and cut the bend off and put a rectangle hole in the side! Works great for me!

Any way you could give me some details about how you did that? I'm not very adventurous about trying new things, but if someone has done it before and can give me a good set of instructions I can handle almost anything.

I went to walmart and bought a apc honda civic cai for $50. I first cut the bend and off leaving about 18 inches of chrome pipe left. Then i measured and marked the side of the pipe. I used a drill to punch through and a jigsaw to cut the rest out. I taped the outside up just to be safe i didn't want the metal to touch the sensor. I then had to find something that could be a spacer. Needs to be rubber or plastic and you need to cut a hole in it so that the sensor goes through it and into the pipe. Then I used some chrome screws to attach the sensor and spacer in place screwing the sensore into the spacer and then the pipe. The rubber spacer i used came off a truck temporary eye hook those things that mount in the bedrail holes and gives you a tiedown the rubber was perfect size i just had to cut the hole out. That was 3500 miles ago. And yes i know i could put it further down but then i have to be even more careful in the rain.

Oh what a difference it made. CAI for these are making 10-15 rwhp almost as much as the SCT which makes about 20 more rwhp. So i should have around 240+ at the motor and about 190 at the wheels. For the CAI to make that power gain though you need to have the sct to reprogram for the better airflow.
