Hey guys,

Myself along with some other Exclusive SCT dealers can now sell X-2's with the user end adjustments enabled on the handheld tuner itself, not using a PC. Items such as idle, speed limiter, fan on/off temps, Spark in 2000 rpm ranges, and WOT fuel changes along with shifting pressures and points on an automatic.

Now these features do varry with different vehicles, the above adjustments are from a 05' GT but on other vehicles tire size and gear ratio changes are adjustable as well, these final items will be added to the Mustang programs soon. I can still adjust for these in my version of the software.

I've sold a few of these now and got to do some adjustments using these this Saturday with great results.

For now, the new features in the updated tunes cannot be emailed so you must get a dealer to enable these functions for you.

Thanks, Doug904 www.BamaChips.com

How long will it before I can get the user end adjustments enabled on my Xcal 2. I would be nice to be able to adjust some things myself without the need for the PC.

Since you purchased it from me then you will need to send it back to me and I'll gladly enable them for you and return it to you free of charge, I'll even pay the return shipping for my customers.

If someone bought it from another SCT dealer then you'll need to contact them to see if they can do it for them or purchase new programs for it from me.

Thanks, Doug.

Doug--

Just found this thread today and was hoping for an update... is the final firmware(?) version (including adjustments for tire size and gear ratio changes as you mentioned) available yet? I'm planning to do a 3.73 gear swap in the very near future, that's why I was curious. Thanks!

This is probably a stupid question, but I've always believed that the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.

Can tuners be "shared" among cars? I mean, can one Mustang owner with a tuner use it on another Mustang? Or is each tuner programmed based on each individual vehicle (modifications, etc.)? And, how often should you tune a car? I'd hate to spend $300 on something I'm going to use once then put on a shelf in my garage.

Sorry, but it basically comes down to a lack of general knowledge on my part.

Each tuner locks itself to the car's computer that it is used on. As long as that tune is in affect, it cannot be used on another car. If the car is flashed back to stock, then the tuner will release itself, and it can be used on other cars. There is no set time how often it should be tuned. Usually after each performance mod you do. Anything that is going to change the way the car runs you are going to want to have the car tuned to. Reading your sig, if those gears alone make the tune a necessity just to reset the speedo. I wouldnt put a CAI on the car without a tune, and would be wary about the headers. Plus, you have to remember it enables all the other features such as throttle response and shift points for the auto and removes all torque limiters. Its widely considered the first mod everyone should make performance wise, and probably the best.

Q: Can tuners be "shared" among cars? I mean, can one Mustang owner with a tuner use it on another Mustang?
A: Simple answer: no. Slightly more complicated answer: Yes, but you can only use the tuner on car Y when the stock tune is reflashed to car X. The same tune from the same tuner can't be used at the same time on more than one car.

Q: Is each tuner programmed based on each individual vehicle (modifications, etc.)?
A: Yes. Each tuner is like a little handheld computer that holds up to three custom tunes PLUS the stock tune from the PCM. You can also request the .XTR (tune data) file from your SCT dealer (I can't recommend Doug highly enough), tweak it slightly on your home computer, then upload it into the XCal2 and load it into your car's computer.

Comment: I'd hate to spend $300 on something I'm going to use once then put on a shelf in my garage.
Reply: Each time you add a new modification to your car (gears, intake, wheel size, etc) it will benefit from an updated tune. Many bolt on's (especially CAI) *require* a flasher tool like the XCal2 in the case of the '05 Mustang.

You will also most likely use your tuner to flash the vehicle back to stock each time you bring it in for warranty service. I know that's what I do... they have no clue I'm running a custom tune and that's how it's going to stay.

And besides, the XCal2 would be worth $300 even if it does ultimately end up sitting on a shelf somewhere. The 1st gear throttle fix and speed/rev limiter removal are awesome but best of all my seat of the pants dyno registered a significant increase in get-up-and-go. And that's a technical term, pal.

Hope that answered most? all? of your questions.

Thanks for the info, Zodiac and Defiant. Guess I'll have to switch up the order of my mods then. I wonder if my family would mind getting thier Christmas presents in, say, July or so .
