Advantages of GT airbox on V6 car?

I'm reading the Xcharger site and they sell a GT airbox with the Supercharger kit to replace the V6 airbox. I'm assuming the GT airbox lets in more air.

So, here's my questions. How much more volume of air does the GT airbox let in, and would replacing the V6 airbox do anything for performance without any other upgrades? Would I need a tune?

I'm wondering, cos my coworker is going to be replacing his GT airbox with a CAI kit and is giving his old airbox away.

It uses the top only ... because of the angle of the inlet

I have no idea what performance increase you would see, but most likely you would need a new tune.

Ah, just the top... that makes sense.

Thanks for the info Gray Pony.

I'll just have to save my pennies to get me the Xcharger.

BTW, how are you liking yours?

The Xcharger uses the GT airbox lid, the bottom part is the same on both, the GT lid has a bigger maf tube, you could possibly throw a code with out a tune by the engine running leaner

Steven, you need a tuner anyway. Buy an SCT or Predator tuner, which will work with future mods, and try out the GT MAF and airbox top (free is a good price). The bigger diameter MAF housing will cause your car to run lean, but the tuner can add in more fuel to compensate. Might be worth an extra 5-10 horsepower over just the tuner alone.

This is correct. The CA Spec X-Charger kit uses the GT airbox lid because of the larger diameter MAF tube, and yeah, it would require retuning on an N/A application.

I don't think it would buy you much N/A in any event. You'd be better off getting a quality CAI + tune or biting the bullet and just going F/I
