3.73s or 4.10s
3.73s or 4.10s
So, due to the help on the forums I have decided my next mods will be gears and a LSD. I am now trying to decide which gear ratio to get, 3.73s or 4.10s.
I have bolts on mods, do not plan to supercharge or turbo, and the car is not a daily driver so comfortability and gas mileage is not an issue.
Can anyone explain the pro's and con's of each of the gears?

Is your car an auto or a manual?
The 3.73's are mainly used in manuals.
The 4.10's are for auto's.
With both of them you will obviously get better acceleration. However the price is that your mileage (mainly your highway mileage) will go down. Usually from what I hear it's not by much, maybe 2 or 3 mpg less. Understand though, that they do not add HP or Torque, they just make it accelerate quicker.

The tuner that I use suggested that I go no more than 3.73, and I am automatic with light mods. Mine is a daily driver as well, and he said that the 4.10's would be too much on a daily driver, but the 3.73's will give me a little more kick when I take it to the track.

3.73s for autos
4.10's for manuals
I've always heard 373's for 5 speed, 4.10's for auto. I suppose both sides have their reasons.
I've heard that because of the overdrive that the auto has the 410 will be more noticable difference than the 373. And with the 5 speed, going with 410's would completely kill your mileage.
I know almost everyone with a V6 does it the way I mentioned. I know that the V8 does it opposite of what I said. Personally I wouldn't go higher than 3.73's just because I need a daily drivable car.

Go with the 3.73, you won't be disappointed. You get good mileage on the freeway still its got ***** out of the whole and if you decied to go F/I in the future its better in the powerband. Just my .02cents.
My gears went bad and I just replaced them with the stock 3:55's. I miss the 4:10's alot and wish I could have put another set in but opted not to. The 4:10's are perfect for the 5 speed manual and if you have a 3:55's now IMO you are wasting your time going with the 3:73's.
