I've got JBA axlebacks on mine and don't have any problem with drone. They sound nice and deep....I get tons of compliments on them.

I love the sound of the stock mufflers - Ford did a great job. If I do anything, I'll add Kooks longtubes and high-flow cats. I think they would sound even better then. I going to wait for now - I'd like to see a set on someone's car before I spend the bucks.
I like those MRT tips, but is there a way to index that huge clamp to the top side where it would be less visible? I guess they could be welded...

If you like the car on the quieter side, the stock exhaust sounds amazing. I personally loved it almost enough not to go aftermarket. But then I put the Borla's on and they were almost twice as loud and the sound . For me there is no comparison. However, I like a loud, throaty car since I still have my hearing

Does anyone have—or can anyone make—a sound clip of this dreaded drone?
My Bettie Page is the first performance vehicle I've owned (and driven, for that matter), and since I'm considering an aftermarket exhaust system, I'd like to know what this drone sounds like to see if it's tolerable to me.
TIA

I love the stock exhaust sound. I'm looking at ways to make it louder, without changing the sound itself. I'm considering an offroad H pipe and shorty headers...although I'm very disappointed by the gains from shorty headers.
Two things I like about aftermarket exhaust are that it's usually lighter, and you can't see the mufflers.

This may sound strange to some of you but I rather hear my intake than the exhaust.

Dude, the car cries out for some aftermarket pump. I am totally happy with my flowmasters, the only drone is when I am in 5th gear under 55 mph.
I just downshift it to 4th and move up to 65 and then go back into 5th (it the O/D anyway).
go atleast flowmasters.... you won't be sorry

I should have the Flowmaster mufflers this week and I hope to install them before this weekend. I post my impressions here after I try them out.

I had drone in all gears at 1800 to 2000 rpm with the flowmasters.(5 spd std)Sounded great at full throttle or backing off.Keeping a steady speed in any gear at the afore mentioned rpm, it droned.Put my stock mufflers back on after 2 days.I have 7000 mi. on the stock mufflers and I believe they have gotten a little louder with age(very little)If you don't won't drone keep the stock system and put different tips on .

Scott,
So if you run the Bassani X-pipe with everything else stock, you get slightly louder overall exhaust sound and no drone?
The wife and I both hate the drone and we use the car as a daily driver. Our daily trips are constantly in the "Drone RPM range", BUT we both love the louder exhaust.
Will the X-pipe gives us louder, but no drone? How much louder? We're in a tight neighborhood and have to worry about "neighbor relations" in the mornings, during warm-ups, etc.

Got my $20 tips today from JEGS, here's pics.
These are 3" inlet, 3.5" outlet, 9" long. Yes, they're a "tad" long, wish I could find 6 inchers, but for $20, what-the-heck.
JEG's pic.
Back shot.
Under shot.

It's not significantly louder. It just sounds a bit deeper and a bit louder. I had my car running next to my fathers totally stock 05 and you can really tell the difference. There is no drone at all either. I'm very pleased with the sound. If you paint the mufflers black it looks very good too.

Does the Bassani X-pipe hook up (front & back) to the existing stock exhaust components? Or do you have to mod some of the items (Plug & Play)?

Yes the Bassani X-Pipe hooks up from the stock exhaust manifolds back to the mid pipes. I installed mine with the car on jack stands. It was fairly straight forward and took me and a buddy about 30 minutes. There is no custom work needed and everything you need comes with the X-Pipe.

most of the time though for city driving you travel through the sound quickly as you accelerate and shift past it.
make sense?

The car is actually pretty loud as it is, I can't imagine what it would be with an aftermarket exhaust. I did not pay attention to this until my wife took my car instead of hers one early morning !!! The first 30-40 seconds after the car is started must be a nightmare for my neighbors, this thing is LOUD ! After this time it quiets down quite a bit, thank God.
I added a CAI, this adds also very sweet sounds without driving me nuts

Great, here I go again. Rondosa, are you sure it doesn't sound more like a "deeeep", "HUMMMMMEEERRRR" noise. Paint me a different picture I can imagine.
