Based on the reviews that are starting to trickle in, it seems that the 5-spd auto is slightly quicker off the line (0-60 wise) than the 5-spd manual. My question is, who will rule the 1/4 mile?

Wouldn't the lower HP loss from the manual give it the edge? I know a lot will depend on the skill of the driver.

ummm...i guess we'll have to see it, but i would imaging the manuel is still quicker. maybe just bad driving. the rest of the reviews also said the automatic feels like it loses a little power in 4th and 5th. (the fuel economy gears)

guess we'll see.

Well the auto will be more consistent for racing, and I think the gap from the manual to the auto will be smaller. Maybe reviewrs see it like that because they havent had me have a run with the manual a the dragstrip.

Wait until the cars are actually at the track with there respective owners. You usually see actually owners beat the mag times by quite a bit. The manual should be a bit faster with a good driver. Manual trannies are more effecient and weigh less, so the power to weight ratio is obviously slightly better.

It all depends on the driver, I would like to think that with a person who knows how to handle the 5 speed manual, the car should run quicker than the auto. There was a thread on stangnet (oh Joy) and one guy in there mentioned that one of the aftermarket tuners had gotten a 13.30 out of the manual car at the track. I will see if I can find the thread.

Here is the thread where the times for the manual are mentioned in the two posts by sweet low 93. I mean anybody can make up stories, but if the auto is running a 13.6 in the 1/4 (per MT) then I think a 13.30 is in line for a manual.

Without knowing the internal gearing of both transmissions but assuming they are the close...the final drive ratio should determine who will trips the lights first:

Manual 3.55:1
Auto 3.31:1

It's strange to see the auto GT version receiving a better city MPG rating than the manual...that's how significant the gearing difference is. Manual wins. Flame on...

We've gone over this before, but it appears that fuel shut off on the MTX GT is 6200 - 6250 RPM. This means that the GT will run the 1/4 finishing in 3rd gear. The ATX GT wll shift from 3rd to 4th @ 95 MPH meaning it will shift to 4th just before the line.

I'd say that 13.30 @ 103 MPH sounds reasonable for a GT with a GOOD drver. But the average driver will be faster in the ATX.

Yeah the manual is quicker..

People you cannot compare magazine times..

Thats called "mag racing." IT's the stupidest form of racing EVER. Different conditions will provide different results...

The tracks are different, the weather is different, the drivers are different...And you expect similar times? Or to be able to compare the times?

I'd say patience is the key... wait until owners post their timeslips.

Car and driver admits they adjust their track times to zero them to normal temp. and elevation...they don't print the actual times.

Exactly,

Magazine test drives are all over the place,

when people start posting real world timeslips, then we can compare everything.
