XCal2 with no mods - worthwhile?
In the interests of those wishing to keep everything bone-stock on their GTs, I have a question that I haven't seen asked yet:
Has anyone tried dyno testing their car with absolutely no modifications except adjusting parameters with an XCal2?
How much benefit can be realized by simply tweaking the factory setup? Any HP improvements? Any torque improvements?
Can the throttle response problem be corrected by this manner alone? (I'm especially interested in the answer to this question.)
Please don't bother extolling the virtues of a simple CAI installation...this is a legitimate request to explore the improvements possible with NO add-ons.
There are so many different outcomes posted with the variety of CAIs and different tunes available that I thought a baseline test of the stock components would have been touched on here. If it has, I can't find it.
Thanks.

I tried it with no mods just to check. I got 8 hp with a 93 octane tune. Even if you have no mods its worth it. You have so many other adjustments like rev limiter, traction control on\off, idle RPM, etc... I really think its a worthwhile investment.
I don't think you could EVER go wrong with getting a tuner, even if you do nothing else.
I ran that way for quite some time and I was happy with it. Didn't get a dyno though, it's against my religion to throw money away

According to the CAI test in the Jan 06 5.0 magazine:
Stock with hydrocarbon trap 255 rwhp
Stock with HC trap removed 261 rwhp
Stock with 91 octane SCT tune was 271 rwhp (unclear from article if this was with or without the the HC trap)
So that's a 10-15 hp gain.
I'm not the most tech savy so forgive me if I have misinterepted the 5.0 article

I have the Diablosport predator.
I ran the 91 octane tune alone for about a week, didn't get a dyno, but I could definitely feel a pretty good gain. The new shift points alone were awesome.
I know it's not SCT, but I imagine they are about the same.
