Hi Guys,
Need some tech advice. I have an 06 GT with the factory 18" fanblades (235/50-18 tires), and I was thinking of putting on 17" black bullit rims with 235/55-17 winter tires for the upcoming bad weather. However, I don't know enough to know whether this will be OK, with respect to offset, tire/rim width, etc. By my calculations the overall wheel/tire diameter of this swap will not significantly change, so the ABS and odometer should be fine. I'm just concerned about other issues, that I'm not aware off...like offset, brake clearance, tire width. I realize this is a "tirerack" question, but the site doesnt allow you to select an 2006 GT with factory 18" wheels.
Thanks for your help.

Do yourself a favor and don't ruin the fanblades in the snow. My winter tires (Michelin X-Ice) are 235/55-R17 and fit on my machined wheel rims. I'd just look on ebay and get some used take off 05/06 bullit rims. You shouldn't pay more than 400 or so for them.

17" rims should have a 45mm offset. Then go with as you said, 235/55R17 winter tires. That is the same diameter as the stock 17" tires. I put Michelin X-ice tires on my stang last winter and they worked great.

How does snow ruin the wheels? Besides getting sandblasted by a salt-truck?

The snow itself won't ruin the wheels... the salt in the snow, as well as in the slush, will.

The reason I asked this question is that I wasn't sure if there were equipment difference (other than the wheels) on an 06 with 18" factory wheels, compared to an 05-06 with factory 17"s.
Thanks,
