Only one company makes a NOS kit for the '05, and that is NOS (Nitrous Oxide Systems). However, there are several offering a nitrous oxide kit for the car, including the above mentioned Zex kit.

nos is a term used by ricers, abandon it!

That's what I hear as well. I also heard the Zex kit is great. There's a guy at the track with an automatic running low 12's on street tires with the Zex kit.

In a year or so, when all my other modding is done, I will either put in a kit like this, or get a supercharger, depending on my financial situation at the time. But, this kit looks like a winner.

Is nitrous any safer than installing a supercharger if you are just looking to bump up your power by 80 - 150 hp and only want it for short runs? I know it's a lot cheaper to install nitrous than a supercharger.

That's a good question. I'm new to the S/C, nitrous scene and am wondering what the pro's and con's are for each setup. I would love a side-by-side comparison.

oh, the temptations!!!!!! Someone teach me something about Nitrous-please. I don't know anything about it, except it makes you haul hiney. Would nitrous be a pain on a stick shift? Do you spray between shifts? Is it even worth it in stick? Can I set it up so that I don't even have to touch any buttons? I have a buddy that'll has this on an auto and he's running low 12's in an auto with a 75 shot. He showed it to many and offered to install one on my car $800-installed. I thought that was just to cheap to pass up. I looked at that link above and they are charging $700 for that same setup. It looks fairly easy to install though. Would the car need to be retuned for nitrous? Would I be required to move the battery to the back (when do you have to move the battery?). Is there a place that I should be learning this stuff from instead of drilling everyone here?

Manual or Automatic, Nitrous will be great for both.

Usually you'll need a few electronics, switches and wires if you want to install it nicely enough so people dont get the idea what you are running until you pop the hood or the trunk (where you mount your cylinder). Systems in general and the 05 Zex kit are engaged by a full throttle switch after a "pre ignition" switch has been toggled. This pre ignition or arming switch readies the nitrous spray system for full activation (full throttle). This would be the most simple intall possible so you dont have to mess with shifter ball installed spray buttons for timed bursts. The full throttle switch only allows the nitrous to be sprayed under WOT.

I dont believe you'll need to move the battery to the trunk because you dont have to install a secondary fuel cell for the entry level kits, these are usually refered to as fuel enrichment cells. Only move the battery to the trunk if you need to slightly even out weight distribution and dont mind running cables to the rear of the car.

I dont know if you'll need to retune but it wouldnt hurt to know how your engine is dealing with the injection. I would suggest some time with a dyno tuner though.

I have been interested in running nitrous on a car for quite a while and I will finally be installing a kit on this 05 GT. Zex is the first to market but expect Nitrous Express and NOS to follow in step shortly. If Nitrous Express makes a kit I would suggest using them since they are by far the most dependable but the other two mentioned arent bad at all either. I'll be buying some nitrous bottle accessories and gauges too so I know Im running safely at all times. Will probably get Autometer instrumentation in the 05 A pillar triple pod for Air/Fuel ratio and fuel and nitrous pressure. I will eventually wire a bottle heater to keep the pressure where it needs to be and an electronic remote bottle opener so I can engage the system on the fly and without running out back to the trunk. I just need to find a good discreet location to install a toggle switch panel for the 3 that I'll be needing.

The question I want answered... how much of a shot (in hp) can the 3v take? I was more interested in 100 rather than 75. Low 12s here I come!

What other mods does your buddy have on his 05?

-Dan

His car is somewhat of an experiment car for Diablo. He's been working with them to get the shifting patterns correct. I know when he first got the car, Diablo blew out his tranny. He got another under warranty though. He has the C&L, Predator, pullies, 4.10's and the Nex in an automatic on stock tires as far as I know. When I see him again, I'll ask. He doesn't have any suspension mods at all. It's a sleeper. I will be installing a water temp gauge, oil pressure gauge when I install the electric water pump. Will I need a fuel gauge? I assume I need a nitrous pressure gauge. I just don't want a bunch of gauges cluttering up the cabin. I have a 2 pod pillar on back order. What to do!!!

I have a couple questions as well.

First of all, where do you refill the nitrous bottles? I don't think they can ship gases in the mail, so you don't ship it back to where you got it from. How hard is it to get this stuff?

Secondly, what is purging? I have heard that you can tell if someone has nitrous because you can hear/see them purge prior to using it. I don't want anyone to be able to tell I have it (unless it's someone who I know and open the trunk where the bottle is). Basically, when you want to use it you just flip a switch inside the cabin to enable it, and then when you hit WOT it goes, right? Is it that simple, or is there more to "arming" the system?

First, purging is relieving all the nitrous out of the system before you launch. Why...not sure. I assume it's not good to have any in the system. Some have their purge by the hood hinge. I think it's for show. I don't know if you have to show the purge by NHRA rules. There are places all over the place that has nitrous filling-well, around here. They even fill at the track. I would call your local performance shops and see if they fill nitrous. If you have a somewhat local track, you'll find nitrous. From what I've learned today, you can have a remote bottle opener, so you can open the bottle without going to the trunk. There are also micro switches that can spray the nitrous based on hitting certain gears. For me, I wouldn't do any more than a 75 shot. Probably start off with a 50 shot. I'm not looking to toast my motor just yet. Look up that link above and go to the left column and see all the accessories. Bottle heater's (need the correct pressure), extra bottles, remote bottle openers, gauges, switches, and so on...

I would too! You can only imagine how the idea has been racing through my mind all freaking day. You don't think I wasn't calling everyone I know to educate myself, do you? Just fantasizing about going that fast. My times with my current mods will only get better. I have some suspension issues right now. I need to change my pinion angle for starts. I have a few things here, but yet to install as well as some things on order. Okay, I'll tell you... Moser race axles, QA1 shocks, Meziere electric water pump, water temp and oil psi gauges, Bogart D-10--F 3.5"x15"/R 10"x15" wheels. Once the wheels get here, I'll be going to a 28x10-15" M/T ET Drag slicks! I also have 2 custom tunes emailed to me for my mods as well as the custom tune I already have. I will be playing around with my new XCal2/Pro racer's package, and will be datalogging with the Innovate wideband. Things can only get better or broken.
