That's a hydrocoil manifold pressure cylinder relief valve, and it's obviously not IN the hydrocoil manifold, rendering it useless.

DUH.

Kind of looks like something out of a pushrod motor lol. what throws me off is the hole in it which looks like a cotter pin or something slides through there. It looks scraped.... so obviously you broke something lol. And what scares me, is the ring to the left of it... so tell us, whatd u break!!!

Looks like the axle retention pin. Looks like it was galled by a spider gear. Probably got some dirt on it when they changed your gearset.
I concur it is from the 8.8" rear end for sure I have seen a million of those (one of the few part still the same from the 5.0's)

I agree with George and Danny. It is the pin from a differential and it looks like it got a little messed up when the spider gears let go. Now let me guess why you have a picture of it . . . Did it happen to come out of a 12 second lime green Mustang

Hmmm, looks like the dominos have started falling. You should start taking bets on what fails next.

May I suggest the Ford Racing driveshaft loops as your next mod?

Most of you are correct...It's hydrocoil manifold pressure cylinder relief valve. Acutally, it is the spider gear pin which is in the differential, which is in the 8.8 rearend. I've mentioned this in a couple other places here, but here's the skinny. Saturday night, after my second run, I got to the end of the track and made a left turn onto the return road (at the track). I heard a loud binding sound from the rearend. Upon disassembly, the spider gears teeth are extremely worn. That pin, above, made a few revolutions in it's slot (not supposed to do this). There is a locking pin (to the left of the main pin in the pic) that sets against the flat spot on the main pin to keep it from spinning. The locking pin is bent as well, not that you can see it that well. It looks as if the main pin was about to sheer off.? There were little cracks in the diff casing as well. After the clutch, the diff is the next weak link. I think the tranny is going to be the next "fuse." I'm just worried about running the car too hard without much of a upgraded tranny to throw in there. I'm going with an Auburn Pro diff ($450) and changing the gears from 4.10's to 4.30's. Well see.

If it's from wheel hop, then it happened along time ago. I only ran maybe 3 or 4 times before the LCA's. I was on the phone the next day ordering them. It's great to live near the track!
