Who Has A Single Turbo 8psi Kit?

The November issue of MM&FF had an interesting article on turbo power. I'm wondering which one is the best bang for the buck. I really think I'm going to get one of these bad babies. I just want to know which one performs well, relatively an easy install, looks good and won’t break the bank.

Here is a nice reasonably priced kit from Scott Beer (of Diablosport fame).

Read this second (actually 4th) thread first, please. It makes it easier to understand.

Thanks for the links Karman. Good reads. I have a Granatelli CAI now, and really like it. There turbo would be one I would seriously look at.

Stay far away, very very far away from them. Look at hellion or powerhouse.

Just to add my 02c.

I believe none of the turbo kits on the market today really offer any bang for the buck. At least for the 3v engines. The kits are way overpriced and are hell to tune. They are also kits that come with turbines with troublublesome bearings. Compare that to a similar kit offered for the 5.0 engines that includes honeywell turbochargers and only costs 3500bux, yes no injectors or pumps are included but sure as hell a set of injectors and pumps does not cost 3k?

In my book if the turbo kit does not include a honywell/garret turbocharger then its asking for truble.

Another thing is that turbo cars need cooldown time. Mos people do not do that and are not prepared for it. I would be very careful with granetelli junk, I have seen way too many people complain about their stuff.

I'm not nearly as worried about cool down on turbos with a water cooled center section. The old air cooled turbos would coke the oil in the bearings if you shut them down without making sure they were as cool as possible. With a water cooled center section, the housing generally does not get hot enough for this to be a problem.

Of course, I guess if you are running from the cops at 150+ mph down the highway then pull over and kill the engine when you give up, it might be a problem even with a water cooled housing.

BTW; the turbos need cool down time regardless of the type. The old turbos were oil cooled btw. The bearings will cook the oil regardless of the type. Idling for 30seconds at least after stoping is recommended even with stock turbo cars.
