Whipple/Procharged cars tuned at JPC Racing

My son and I went to JPC Racing yesterday for a dyno visit with Justin Burcham and Kevin MacDonald with both '05 cars. It was a cool day in the 40's near sea level so we're talking about some good #'s on these runs!

My Whipple car topped out at about 10.5 lbs boost 534.3 rwhp and 502 rwtq. Whoa horsey! Talk about great air! My son's Procharged car topped out close to 10 lbs boost 499.3 rwhp and about 438-440 rwtq. Kevin MacDonald really has these cars tuned like they rolled right off the dealer's lot as usual. Not only does he get the a/f ratios correct, but he spends quite some time on all of the driveability issues that these cars can suffer from with blowers huffing away. He had our cars out on the street several times making sure they didn't go home with the hick-ups and only a WOT tune. Both cars left the shop for an hour ride home with absolutely no issues.

Justin Burcham has been a great guy since I met him. He has hooked me up with the best prices on most everything I buy for this car and I highly recommend JPC Racing. It seems the more business I do with him, the better it gets. That's no bull.
Here's our dyno sheets:

Great numbers, I'm sure that's fun for both of you. Nice family event!

Are you still on the stock internals??

Yes, and I'll take it like a man if it blows. This guy Kevin MacDonald is a top tuner in the US and seems to think it will be fine especially since it was tuned in cool dense air conditions. If it ever blows that will give me a reason to yank the mill out.

Kevin MacDonald told me to order the kit with the 52's because the 34's work the fuel system too hard. He said he can think of about 10 reasons why the 52's are better and they leave room to grow.

Did you think 60's would have been too much?

I don't think so, but they would have been too tall for the stock fuel rails and the air inlet tube supplied by Whipple. Kevin said to get 48's or 52's. I know the #39's came close to tapping out on my son's car close to redline, but they ended up being just fine. The #52's were actually about 1/4'' shorter than the stockers and the 39's. My 52's were a Ford Racing part#, not a Ford part#. I couldn't get my hands on a regular Ford #52 set. Justin got me these ones.

All I know is Kevin MacDonald says there are many reasons for the 52's, mainly the fuel system doesn't work as hard and there's room to grow. Since he tunes the cars I don't try to argue with his department if you know what I mean. I do all the grunt work and get him to make it run right. I don't think fuel mileage changes because it still uses the same amount of fuel, but it's not squeezed as hard through the injectors at high rpm's. He definitely has to change the fuel tables to accomodate the 52's. I couldn't have ran a canned Whipple tune with the 52's without problems.

Anthony do you have a built motor?
Or are you running the stock short block?

He stated in an earlier post that it was stock.

It's definitely stock. If it pops, that will give me a reason to pull it out. I'd like to see how long it will last.

Awesome run bro! Your video has just proved to me that I must get a Whipple someday. The sound was amazing. Does the whine get loud at high rpms?

Everyone worries about blowing the stock motor with a S/C and for good reason but I haven't heard much about blown motors. What have you heard related to stock S/Ced motors failing if anything?

The thing is quiet unless you are on the pedal hard and when you are the sound is ''all *****''.

As far as what I've heard about blown motors, I do know of quite a few. Usually from guys that got greedy with the power or having bad tunes, insufficient fuel system, etc...The simple rule to follow IMO is 10-12 lbs boost max and a good tune from a professional is as important as adding oil to the engine at that level. The Whipple HO kit has a great fuel system and the canned tunes that come with them as as good as a canned tune gets. Still should dyno tune them though.
