Whipple guys, in here please

I'm about to buy a Whipple and I'm just curious how much higher the blower will sit as opposed to the stock intake/TB. I have an RK Sport ram air hood which has a lower underside (for the ram air duct) than the stock hood did. Trying to decide on whether I'll be modifying the hood's underside or buying Prothane motor mounts again in the lower profile design.

it most likely won't fit. the whipple just bearly fits under the stock hood. The pulley rubs the insulation (but not the metal) and the intake tube rubs the metal itself. Not sure how much the new motor mounts will give you.

The Prothane lowering mounts give a 1/2'' drop. I have 2 choices here depending on how much higher the kit will be. The lower section of the hood can be cut open to clear the blower kit or the lowering mounts. I don't want to hack up the hood as it does a nice job of ducting the air to the filter location. I guess I'll just do what I have to do.

i would agree, most likely you'll
have to modify the underside of your
hood.

i left the hood liner on and just cut
out small areas that rubbed on the
whipple

I'd go for the motormounts....

But I'm suprised that you would have an issue with that hood with the whipple. just as long as you have the flexible rubber coat around the airbox like the K&N or C&L box, you should be fine.

Anthony, I am unsure what the underside of your hood is like but I can tell you with the Shelby hood I have I had to make modifications for my Roush because despite the inner layer being the same mold as stock, the hood itself is a bit thicker (yours may be the same).

Not the same blower as a Whipple however there is another member on here who added a whipple with the same hood as me and he also had to cut openings for the pulley and the intake tube.

If your hood is thicker and solid on the inside like these hoods than you will more then likely have an issue. Even after I made the mods under the hood I still had contact issues under load when the engine flexed so I also switched to stiffer mounts to keep the engine steady and lowered.

Hope this helps.

My hood has a duct that is part of the underside. When I first installed the hood I had to take the large hose clamp at the throttle body and put it on so the screw was under the TB rather than on top like Ford had it. The screw on the clamp was just rubbing it.

I think what I'll do is just install the Whipple, lower the hood and take a look. Either that or just get a measurment of the height before and after the install. If it's any higher in the location where the TB was I'll have to just see how much higher and make a desision. I'd rather not molest the hood unless I have to. I started pulling the Procharger off tonight and installing it on my son's car.

they dont mention anything on summit racing about lowering, I think they are just prothane mounts with stock height.

the ones from JDM have the drop on it.

Anthony, if you're considering going to a tubular K-member anytime soon, BMR just released a new one (#KM011) that incorporates a 3/4" drop mounting point. I really wish they had that when I bought mine.

I think I'll just wait and see how it looks when it's installed. If the clearance problem in minimal I'll just buy the mounts. There's a guy on modularfords that has a new set for sale for $125. If the clearance problem is more than 1/2'' I'll consider the k-member or modifying the hood. How much is that k-member Don?
