Where should I spend the money; CAI or SC?

All;

I'm planning on supercharging in the spring. But I would also like to do the CAI and tune now. So my questions are -

Are there any CAIs that can be used with a Vortech? Or anything else for that matter?

Considering that the s/c would have it's own tuner, would the SCT/Diablo that came with the CAI be a waste of money?

I know I could eventually sell the CAI and tuner, but don't really want the hassle.

Thanks

Walt

The WMS velocity tube works with a Saleen blower. Just a thought!

By cost, yer talking maybe $300 for a CAI, and probably around $7000 to get a SC and have it installed.

So until you get the SC, does it matter?

Some systems I've seen you can use an aftermarket CAI because they draw in from the factory airbox. Other systems don't. In either case, if you can use it, cool, if not, sell it. It's only $300 compared to the cost of a SC.

I would definately get away from the stock intake, though. I wouldn't wait on a CAI. Get someting. Anything. You'll see gains in hp, fuel efficiency, throttle response, and sound quality.

Figure what you will lose when you do the sc. Your tune will not be correct and unless you get a usuable intake you will lose money on the resale of this as well.

Go ahead and buy a CAI and tuner. You can use the tuner when you buy your SuperCharger and just resale your CAI. I just reloaded the tuner with a Brenspeed SC tune.

I just install a Saleen SC on my car (Cost $4500). Install was by myself (very easy). All the parts that I have install before the SC and couldn't reuse were UDP's, Strut Bar, Engine Cover, and my CAI. I got 20 cents on the dollar for almost all the used parts. The Demolt Tuneable Induction is still for sale.

I would wait til you go SC. I bought a C&L CAI & Brenspeed tuned SCT tuner last fall. During the winter I went to a Magnacharger that came with a SCT tuner so I ended up selling that combo that I paid $675.00 for $350.00. I wish I had waited.

I am with Darrell... Do the CAI for now and get the SC'er when you can afford it. Enjoy your car everyday while you are waiting for the SC'er! It really depends on how long you have to wait between the two of them. If it's going to be a year or two get the CAI and tuner now!!

That's what I don't want to happen... btw, how's the Magnacharger? I don't see many people that have them. Are you happy w/it? was installation difficult?

If you're planning on Centrifugal S/C, you won't be using CAI, since the S/C is feeding your T/B. Now, if you're planning on getting Saleen S/C, you might want to go with C&L racer tube or even WMS. Other brand positive displacement S/Cs use different style CAI's since the T/B is located differently.

I'm not quite sure which one I'll go with, but cost is/will be a consideration. I'd love a whipple, but a Vortech is $1200.00 less. Overall, I'm trying to maximize bang for the buck. Maybe I'll just hold out 'til spring.

I am happy with my Magnacharger. I dynoed at 399RWHP at 407ft# torque on my stock auto. I was told install was fairly easy by Lidio who professionally installed mine. This was the first Maggie he had done.
