Wheels changed...now TPMS goes crazy..

I changed my stock wheels to 18' bullits from Ford Racing. Now there are no TMS Senosers installed in the wheels and everytime I start...there comes the "tire pressure fault" sign and text. Is there any chance to get this function disabeld? I've got a SCT2, do I need to change the wheels size also from 17 to 18'?
Thanks.

No,you need the darn sensors. My buddy Chris at Discount Tire found some reusable bands that use the stock sensors through an in-house supply company.I found the same type of bands(aircraft hose clamps-20 to 24" in diameter) at a shop that sells pipe fixtures, chains and hoses for industrial use.
The sensors actually slip right through the band, tighten up and your ready to roll.

You'll need to adjust for tire size if your overall diameter is different from stock.

I just swapped wheels out on my 'o7 and this is happening to me as well. I think I'm just not going to worry about it unless the warining causes any other issues?

"No,you need the darn sensors" quote from above.

Why do we NEED the sensor's. Mine act's up costantly, now I just ignore it! All I did was remove the wheels to clean them and added the BRS Spinner's. Have stock 18 Fan Blades.

You don't need the sensors. Only thing that happens if you don't have them is the light on the dash lights up. I just had 18X9 and 18X10 Wed Sport TC005's installed on my car and didn't install the sensors. Like many others on this site I didn't feel like paying the extra $249.99 for the bands.

that's all I figured it was too. Just the "Idiot" light. I can live with that. Just making sure it's not anything further complicated.

Nope, I've confirmed with Tirerack, National Tire and Battery, and Discount Tire that it does nothing other than set off the low tire pressure warning light on the dash.

I just got new wheels put on last night. Discount tire didn't even charge me for the bands. They had some in shop. They did order new sensor brackets when they ordered my wheels. The brackets where 4.50 a peice. They transfered the sensors to the new wheels and everything is working fine. Here she is.....

No charge here either from Discount Tire. They did try and use the old bands on the new wheels at first but they came loose and the front wheels lost its balance and the alarm came on.
I can't figure out the sensor need but I've heard all the 07's have them.It does help us when the tires get low on air pressure, that keep your fuel mileage up and tire wear even.

The need for the sensors is federal regulations.
Has anyone tried throwing them in the spare and leaving it at 32psi?

i read a guy on modular fords took the four sensors, put them in a pvc pipe with caps on both sides put a valve stem on it, and keeps that at 32 and leaves it in the trunk, apparently it works great. thats my plan since i check my pressures at least once a month anyway.

I've read that doesn't work. They need to be in a rotating wheel to work. Who knows which it is. I ponied up the $400 for an extra set. I could care less about the TPMS but I can't deal with a warning light on my new car, no matter how trivial.

Plus I see too many people riding w/a very low tire and they don't even know it until other drivers honk their horns and point. when my sensor light came on, I stopped to check and make sure that I was not losing air fast. So this comes in handy for me.
I'm just glad I can put on my new 18in polished bullits...

Arrow TPMS - a sign of things to come

Had the same dilemma when I picked my Mustang up last December. I ordered it with the 18" Bullitt rims and the 235/50ZR-18 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWSs. As I needed winter tires, before I picked it up, I purchased the 17" Bullitt rims, 225/60QR-17 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-50 RTFs, and the TPMS components from the Ford dealer and asked them to install it. I could not get the 215/60QR-17 Michelin X-Ices, as they were back-ordered in western Canada. As it was throwing TPMS codes, I had to bring it back to the dealer once more and it's been OK since then. I adjusted for the different tire diameters with GMS's Fuego.

Without the TPMS components you will have to live with the dash light, the audible alert, and the text message in the information display area! Who wants that on a new car?

Soon all the cars will have this "wonderful" TPMS stuff as per our governments, who are so concerned with our safety. Obviously we cannot be trusted to check the tire pressures with a gauge ourselves.

By the way, I got rid of those air bag labels on the visors. I asked my Dealer's service department to remove them. They said that they couldn't because it's a safety thing. I told them that their cars would be safer, if they plastered decals inside their cars extolling the virtues of all of their safety devices. At any rate, I brought my visors to an upholstery shop and they steamed them off.

I feel much better now

How low does the pressure need to be to set off the alarms? I checked my tires last week and they all read 28 psi. I added air to get them all up to 32.

I thought that I heard somewhere that when a dash light is on, your vehicle goes into fail safe mode, in which you lose hp and mpg.

This is what has been preventing me from getting new rims, because I don't feel like paying all that extra cash for sensors.

I was hoping there was a way to turn off the tpms light with a tuner, but, I guess not?
