Whats the trick to chirping tires in second?
OK...kind of a noob question, but I got to ask.
Whats the trick to chirping the tires in 2nd gear? I have a manual trans with JLT 2 CAI, 93 octane torque tune (tillmanspeed), and I've tried several times...WOT in first gear up to 6K RPMs, but the shift to second gear is not very satifying . The car takes off like fast, but thats about it.
Perhaps I need the tune adjusted, or maybe its the driver

Turn TCS off. Even with my sticky BFG's I can squeal 2nd and chirp third. I haven't tried 4th, I run out of road. On stock tires you should be able to fry them through 2nd even bone stock if you power shift.

If all else fails, find a really smooth road that runs uphill.

Tom281 is right.
Mine is totally stock and I have gotten more than a chirp out of it with rear axle drifting sideways just a touch ... and with traction control on. The shift only needs to be fast ... not brutal. Not a true powershift but carrying some RPM's at clutch engagement and lots of throttle as you quickly release (not pop) the clutch.

It's all timing. If you force it, you are going to rag the tranny. In stock form with the TCS off you should be able to get major scratch in 2nd and a good bark from 3rd, which is nothing impressive. I could do it in my friends '8x Chevette with 4 people in the car. All a matter of how much you respect the car and nothing about how quick it is. You may be doing just fine without getting scratch.

I have no trouble squawking into 2nd and chirping into 3rd, TCS on, bone stock. TCS does prevent basically any wheel spin in 1st for me though. Shifting about 5500-6000rpm. There's no trick really, I usually don't even give it WOT.

Bone stock, I actually pulled into traffic one day hard on 1st and shifted quick into second and the tires screamed, it was sweet.
Get first gear too about 5,500 and let the clutch out quick when second is engaged.

If you really want to get the hang of it but are getting a little scared by the quick shift. Slowly go up to 35-40 ish in 1st gear, gently shift into second, then push the clutch in, tack up to 4k or so, and slowly come off the clutch. As soon as you feel it start to grab, but not before, then quickly come off the clutch as you apply the accellerator. <insert nice long sqwaking sound here>
Do it in a parking lot and not on the street where your back end can come loose, scare you into drifting left of center and killing a family riding in their car.
