I guess it depends on what the budget will let you spend. In my opinion i would say maybe some headers or a little bit of suspension work. I have a set of bbk shorty headers that im not using if you are interested. They are by no means spectacular looking but they dont leak.

Now would shortys require a new mid pipe?

shorties don't require a new mid-pipe. you can use the stock h-pipe/cats.

i know there are threads like this floating around here, but like gtpony said, the next mod would depend on your budget. i would say go with rear gears if you can afford it.

the difference is pretty dramatic. the only reason why i didn't change out my gears with this car is because i have a turbo. i am a turbo noob but i heard you need a higher gear (lower number) to allow the turbo time to spool up.

try researching on this and other forums, but from what i have experienced from my past car and from club member's cars.... if you can afford it, get it.

If you wanted the shorties without the catless mid pipe the stock pipe will work. Thinking about it i had the shorties on with the stock midpipe and cats. If you want the shorties i will send them too you. I have tried to get rid of them and nobody seems to want them. If you wanted to cover the shipping i would send them out. Its up to you. You would need gaskets though

i don't know about your area, but here there is a place where i believe it is like $550 for the gears, install, and whatever else is needed.

My vote is for the gears, they make a pretty good seat in the pants kick for the buck!

stock gt's run 3.31 with an option to run 3.55. i don't remember the details of that part about which years had what. i believe there is a sticker on the bell housing saying the gear, right? can't remember.

the gears will have a much greater difference than the aluminum driveshaft will. i do notice a difference with the DS on my car, but i would do gears first if i were you. the aluminum DS weighs less than the stock one. it cuts down on rotational mass. i noticed that it will rev quicker and respond to throttle inputs faster.

the DS can definitely wait imho. in your case, it would be one of the last things i would do.
