What is need for 4.10 Gears Install

What parts (other then the gears) are needed to complete a gear swap from 3.55 to 4.10?

I am looking at purchasing the gears and whatever else is needed, and then take it to a shop for install.

I just want to put in FRPP parts as I here they are the best.

Thanks,

Sean

no no no

you need the FULL ring and pinion install kit from FRPP, I went cheap when I had mine done and ordered the $50 kit. Well the guy broke the pinion bearing and I didn't give him one, and went ahead and got another full kit from the dealership (an extra $120). Took a day for the parts to show up so he had to put my car back together and roll it out of the bay. Then he rolled it back in when the parts showed up. the install labor went from 200 to 400 because I cheaped out on a $20 part. Do yourself a favor and buy the full install kit

Also if you plan on drag racing the car, NOW is the time to upgrade your differential. Get the 31 spline tru-trac. You'll wish you did when you have to do it again later.

I guess it depends on your installer, mine came highly regarded and did a great job, all he used is what I listed above, gears are rock solid and just as quiet as the original 3:55's. If your car has a lot of miles I can see needing a kit but on a new car with low miles there should be no issue. How many miles do you have on your car now Sean, and does in make any noise now or is it quiet?

The car has around 3000 miles right now. It is an 2007. I can't tell if the gears currently make any noise as my exhaust hides it.

If your not having any issues now I wouldn't replace any parts other than the gears them selves since everything in the rear end now is brand new. Now if you want to beef up the rear end then that's a different story, as mentioned above now would be the time while your in there.

Best thing to do is get your part number and do a search, but I looked for a while and ended up getting them at my local dealer because every price I found on line for the FRPP set was about the same after shipping as my local dealer. You can probably find a $20-30 difference but I was happy to have them in my hand today. As for the rayal purple you can search as well or go here:
http://www.royalpurple.com/rp-dealer-locator.html
to find a local dealer/store. Pepboys and Napa both carry as well.

You can also order the Royal Purple from Brenspeed.....

And, this would be a very opportune time to upgrade to the FRPP or equivilent Girdle. Nice to have one with a drain plug, instead of popping the whole cover off....Best looking mod nobody ever sees.....

My gears are getting done this month and I am also doing the girdle. For the small price of it, it is worth doing.

The FRPP 4.10 ring and pinion set comes with added pinion nut, crush sleeve, and pinion shims. Since I didn't want to remove the original bearing from my stock 3.55 pinion so I could reuse it later if I didn't like the 4.10's, I purchased a "large end" Ford pinion bearing and cup. This way I could reinstall the old gears without having to reset anything. I also bought 2 liters Motorcraft 75w-140 syn diff fluid and a bottle of friction modifier. I bought a side gear shim set in case I needed them to adjust the backlash. Any proper diff installer should have these shims readily available when you take your gears to be installed. Fortunately I never needed to use them as the install went flawlessly. I never replaced the pinion seal as the car had little mileage on it. It may be luck but it doesn't leak.
These gears actually are more quiet than my factory ones were. Bonus

Sean,
Should you take Dustin's advise and add a True Trac, I found that the Ford Synthetic Fluid (without friction modifier) keeps the locker the most quiet when under compression braking. Friction modifier won't hurt it, but it does make the True Trac shuffle a bit more noticable.

Does the FRPP Gridle require the Panhard bar relocation bracket? I know the Roush one does, but not sure about the Ford one.

As long as you get the low profile FRPP Girdle for the 05 up, then no.....
