First, buy the very best tire you can afford! It is the single most effective upgrade for our cars.

I've used the 555s, and I really liked them. I think they are probably the best "bang for the buck" out there. The only complaint I've ever heard was from guys that expected to get 20k miles out of 555Rs ....duh. There are "better" tires in various categories, but I think 555s should definitely be on anyone (with a budget's) short list.

My favorite tire to date were my potenza S-03s. They were fantastic in both wet and dry, but wore out a little too soon and were fairly expensive.

I'd recommend checking out the reviews and prices of various tires at tirerack.

Joe - what's up buddy?

I have heard good things about Kuhmos but I am currently running same setup as Traffic above.
Defiitely like them. Have tried the BFG KDW2s NT and they are good but I like the look of the Nittos on the rim better (ie - your sidewall comment).

With track time at Fun Ford in Orlando and then the Nitto Nationals in Bradenton early in March, I beat on my 285s the most I ever have. Still in good shape. When I swap them out though, I am planning on doing the Nitto 295/45s out back like Swingle and MTAS. Nice fat rubber out back and they will fit on a 9 inch rim.
