what is the biggest 17" tire to fit s197?

I have a set of 17X9 Cobra R rims with 275/40/17 drag radials that fit without mods. They look small and I want to go taller without modifications. Has anyone installed 295's or 305's?

i`m running 275/50-17 on 9" wheels. they look beefy and are a little less than 1" taller than stock. heres a pic of them up against my 255/50-17 on 8" wheels i put on the frt (they are the right stock height)

my car is not lowered. heres a calculator you can plug in sizes and get all the info

So how are the tires doing? Any rubbing problems? Did you decide to lower the car? I'm just about to buy new tires. Just wanted to check. Thanks.

i`ll never lower my car. these tires have been fine, other than with a taller tire i lost a little gear ratio. ive about burned the rear off and i`m getting ready to order a couple tires myself. i`m actually thinking about going with 2 more wheels and 2 more 255/50`s like i have on the frt. the tire height will be correct, so i`ll have my full 3.73 back and i can rotate them. then i`ll decide to either get another taller set,or use those 9" rear wheels for some drag tires. now i`m caught up since i went staggered. the 255/50 would look really sweet on 9" wheels though. the tire sizes has been a pain, between what brands and offered sizes

17X9 all the way around. I got 4:10 gears. Im using stock 235's now. Running a taller tire would help. I need to get about a 27-28" tall tire and 10" wide and sticky!
