What Is The Best Hand Held Tuner.

HELLO EVERY ONE,

I AM HAVING A HARD TIME FIGURING OUT WHAT IS THE BEST HAND HELD TUNER. IS IT THE FUEGO, SCT XCAL-2, DIABLO PREDATOR. I HAVE A 2006 GT AUTO WITH LOTS OF NEW PARTS TO BE ADDED SOON SUCH AS A C&L CAI, STREETFIGHTER TORQUE CONVERTER, NEW GEARS, LARGER RIMS, AND MAY BE A SUPERCHARGER IN THE NOT SO DISTANT FUTURE. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

THANKS AGAIN, JOHN

John, It's not so much the actual "tuner"- they're all comparable, it's the programer who is the most important. You can't go wrong with BamaChips, Brenspeed, Evolution, and a few others. Do your research as this will be an important decision. You'll see by my signature who I prefer

It also depends on your personal preference as well John..some like the Diablosport Predator because it works as both a pre-loaded and custom tuner where on the other hand ? others prefer the SCT X-Cal II for it's reliability and doesn't require the use of a 6-8 pin adapter as the Predator does..You can also use a regular USB cable to connect the SCT directly into your computer for downloading software and tune updates as well as datalogging..I really don't know much about the Fuego and the other programmers ? but most of us recommend the X-Cal for it's overall ease of use and doesn't require nearly as many software updates as the Predator...Anyway hope this answers some of your questions and wish you the very best of luck..

do a search in yoru area for people who tune mustangs, see what they use... find the most common tuner device used and go wtih that.

No sense in getting an x2 if everyone in your area uses the diablosport.. and vice versa....

In my area it seems everyone uses the diablo... but a hour or two drive away some shops use the x2... to me, worth the drive to these shops because of their reputation.

mileage may vary...

the other forum ive been on awhile says brenspeed all the way and now that ive joined this forum everyone says bamachips all the way so just do some research the most common tuner seems to be the sct xcal 2

Doug's are very nice tunes and he's a great guy to work with.

We also just got our first allotment of the new Flashpaq units from Superchips that have been in development for the better part of two years. USB downlaods from the Internet, tuneable on the fly, cool on screen graphics, etc.. it's a nice piece, and the price is comparable to the others on the market, while still carrying the quality that Superchips is known for over the years. They are slowly going to switch all their popular models to this style unit, so file mods can be done quickly and easily by most anyone that has an Internet connection.

I got an SCT Xcal II with tunes from Doug @ Bamachips. His tunes and customer service are second to none.

No mail order tune files for me. Every car is unique so I tune my own car. Therefore, the only choice would be:

1) SCT X-Cal II &
2) SCT Pro-Racer Software w/base *.zcf tune file.

And others with identically modded cars wonder why I'm always just a "tad" quicker....

I reccomend the SCT XCal2 with a custom tune, there are plenty of people around here who sell them.. the going rate on them is 379 shipped. Let me know if you need one, we sell them as well.

I only recommend Brenspeed, Bama, and JDM on the custom tuning (as well as us).

John,

I recommend the SCT XCAL II only because it is what Lidio at Alternative auto uses and that is who I got the C&L and the tuner from. He does a great tune for the auto. I have since found a local tuner who uses the SCT as well and he is going to tune my car when I get the Whipple. I'll let you know as soon as it comes in and I can ship you the C&L.

But like others have already stated, find the person that you want to tune your car first, then go with whatever they use, whether it is a Predator or SCT.

Plus the SCT Livelink software is a plus, too. It's a tool that ANYONE with a moderately modified motor should worry about using. It never hurts to use it to see if there is anything you need to know that you can't see or hear.

No offense there Willie but I must respectfully disagree with your opinion as will also the majority of most forum members who have nothing but positive results with their mail order tunes from both bamachips.com and brenspeed.com.. I can tell you from personal experience that I've gained substantial HP and torque gains all through the RPM band in addition to dramatic increases in throttle response in both lower and upper torque ranges..On the other hand ? yes I do agree that there's no substitute when it comes to a real custom tune on the dyno, however when it comes to tuners such as bamachips and brenspeed ? who Btw are also considered as top 20 SCT tuners in the industry who also R&D every product they sell and develop but most of all ? their customer service is also second to none.. IMHO ? their mail order tunes are probably as close to a custom dyno tune as your going to get and are probably just as good, plus look at the money you save on top of it..Overall ? none of us seem to have any complaints..
