I am sure you have considered this, but what sort of stress does this put on the engine? I have seen a few (supercharged) engines that did not fare well. Is it simply a matter of a good tune?
[/b][/quote]
A good conservative tune.
Let me restate that...
A good conservative tune, by a tuner that you trust. Also, make sure the installation of everything will be/is done correctly. Another safety precaution is to constantly monitor your gauges and getting a quarterly or bi-yearly re-tune.

And that is what concerns me. Maybe I am too conservative, but it seems like the risk is too high - the engine is just too fragile beyond a N/A form. It seems to be a great engine in stock (N/A) form.
Back in my day (70's / 80's) there was quite a supply of bolt-on goodies that would give lots of performance gains, and the engines could handle it.
Of course back then, turbos and superchargers were left to the serious racers and engine builders. They were "exotic"; certainly not affordable for the average Joe, and I don't remember them being in a "do it yourself" kit like you see today.
I am not knocking the turbos and superchargers, I would love to have either (or both!) - I just don't want to roll the dice everytime I hammer it. I suppose the moral of the story for me is to invest in a new set of rods and pistons along with the boost...

If something is going to fail, it will eventually fail regardless of how good the tune is. Poo happens. Some people may not agree, but that's my opinion.

I agree. There are plenty of variables that go into play and it really is gambling once you get past a certain point.
Some people have bad luck too.

Back in October, our block blew as well. We recently upgraded the engine, new block, new pistons, forged internals, etc etc. The car will be going back this week for tuning. We had to break in a new clutch and the engine. We still have the twin turbo system and see what we end up with. The engine will handle up to 900 horse, the turbo's 750...we are looking to get around 600 rwhp.

It is true, she let go. Not typically though, something tells me it was already damaged prior to the turbo and just waiting to let go. Popped at 50% throttle and about 5-6psi. Started building a new short block today, 05 aluminum block with forged internals n' such. We are looking to handle about 900hp as well and spin up to 700rwhp. New clutch and flywheel going in too now since it will be out. Prolly gonna get a Fidanza aluminum flywheel and a Centerforce DFX clutch. I should have the engine out this Sunday and will dismantle for pics and investigation.

Eventually don, eventually. We realize there is still stock crap behind the motor (trans/rearend) so it will be in due time.

Keep us informed as to what you do. It will be interesting to compare our buildup to yours and see what happens.
We figured with 600 to the rears, we should be able to keep the stock rear end and tranny safe...time will tell I guess.
We went with an 04 Romeo iron block, Manley 6cc dish pistons and h beam rods, Moroso oil pan, new high flow oil pump with treated gears and cobra pickup tube, Cobra crank, Spec stage 2+ clutch and aluminum flywheel.
Be interested to know what you find. On our stock block you could see right where a rod came through the block.
Here's a pic of the new engine before being installed.

Man this is really a tough pill to swallow.. First we see Don_W's awsome video with a clip of the ultimate Mustang.. Now you have presented yours, which is also awsome..
Should we all just stop making video's? I mean, it seems that once awsome video's are made the engine's get damaged shortly after..
Sorry to hear about your loss Derek! The car was awsome man..

How about some more info on this? Are you referring to a new stock Ford 3V pump, or something else?

darn all of you with power adders. I think I will stick to N/A since I drive her 3300 miles a month and driver he hard. I dont have the money either to supercharge or turbocharge. Plus there are to many things I have to change on the car if i do.

The guy that put the engine together said it was a MMR (Modular Mustang Racing) oil pump.

I'm not familiar with exactly what MMR is using, but you might want to read this if you haven't already: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/2005-mu...a-3v-47455.html
