Underdrive pullies: Opinions?
This may be posted elsewhere, so I appologise in advance...
What are your opinions on UDPs? Are they worth the hassle of instillation? What kind of gains can I expect (HP/torque) after instillation? And lastly... what brand do you recommend?

They are worth it. Steeda is the most common choice (and what I have). Most report 6-8 hp/tq. Installation is less than an hour with minimal tools on the garage or driveway floor, so not sure what you mean by hassle

I have the Steeda's as well. No issues and easy install. Total install time was about an hour and fifteen minutes. I can feel the difference from my butt-o-meter. I haven't had it dyno'ed though.

My dad is a big car guy and he said that underdrive pulleys can mess up your alternator and cause your car not to start. He is really against me modding the mustang any more than what is done to it already so it may be that he just told me this too persuade me into not getting a set. Anyone have trouble with their battery?

M05, Thanks for the heads up on that inlet elbow. That is the only thing that I didn't like about the Steeda kit. I see everyone else with the C&L kit and it has that really nice looking elbow. I will definately be ordering it. I am going to have to yell at Gus over at Steeda for not telling me about it j/k. Are there pics of it on the website? I didn't have it dyno'ed before the CAI, pullies, tune and exhaust, so I don't know real numbers, but it definately feels like a different car.
OK sorry about the hijack. Like I said before, absolutely no negative impact with the pullies. AC, temps and charging system are all good. I even had it at the dealer to replace a faulty gas cap and they gave me no grief whatsoever about them. My mileage has also increased by between 2-3 MPG's from the pullies alone.

FWIW: I'm a S197 V6 guy and jealous of U S197 V8 guys having all the choices for UDP's, esp the STEEDA . I'm still awaiting a decent UDP for the V6 4.0 motor. I'm a believer in this upgrade but the aftermarket I don't think has caught up to us V6 guys in the UDP dept. I wish Steeda would come out w/ one for us, too.
