I like the "back to factory" option. Theoretically, you could tune the car and untune it when you bring it in for service.

Would there be a record of the tune?

I'm contacting my local SCT dealer/dyno shop and will see if they will trade some tuning time in for a first chance at a 2005 GT

I was thinking....if you tune your 05, you need to tell your insurance company no? If you got into an accident and they found out it was tuned, you might be denied insurance coverage.

Not the case with simple mods like exhaust, rims/tires, even intake in some cases, but with the computer.....I think this would be an issue.

XCalibrator from Superchips is $350 retail, and then there is the dyno service from the local shop (varies)

It would not be an issue with your insurance company. They would not care if the computer was tuned. It would just be replaced with original equipment.

As for any after market cosmetic add on's, that may be an issue, like wheels,tires,facias,bumpers,wing tails anything of that sort would not be covered unless you let your insurance company know that you added them and show proof of purchase, becuase if you don't and the car is ever involved in an accident and the car is totaled the insurance company will only pay the value of the car with only original parts.

It's the same with ingine mods and bolt on aftermarket parts.

Unknown by me. SCT has announced the product, and will include a simple tune for it, but it's really there to enable the dyno shops to come up with many custom tunes.

So time will tell.

Also, if you do mods like add CAI, or different headers, or want to use premium fuel, or add a supercharger, a computer flasher such as this one will be NECESSARY to take full advantage of the mod, or in some cases to safely use it (supercharging). So this is really an enabling technology. Whether it gives you any gains by itself has yet to be determined.

Flashing the computer on your car will void your warranty. Whenever you reflash the computer it usually sets something off saying that the computer has been reflashed (im not sure exactly what it says but I know it says something). And even if you flash your computer back to factory settings it still says its been changed and can void your warranty.

Nope, no Ford dealer can tell if you've had your PCM reflashed as long as you return it to stock before going in for any warrenty or emissions repairs. Now, if you blow an engine and they send an Ford Engineer out with their software they can tell how many times the PCM has been reflashed and then compare that with the amount of times with the warrenty history and make an assumtion but still they can't be exactly sure. Now if you leave it in the seat then yes, it will void the warrenty, it's been done. :nono:

My X-calibrator's are $325 for two programs, an 87 performance and a 91 or 93 Performance program. I can also sell them with adjustments for the JLT, MMR, Steeda, and C&L air intakes.

So, the final verdict is NO? A Ford dealer will NOT be able to tell if the computer is flashed.

My local Ford Sales Manager told me today that it would void the warranty. I don't think many people want to take that chance.

Mark - I've heard both sides. I'm leaning towards "the dealer can detect if you have reflashed:; however, it is up to the individual dealer whether they want to cover your car under warranty. Good news is that you are not obligated to any dealer - so keep trying dealers until one will cover you.

The way I see it is might as well mod your mustang and enjoy it. You'll have a hard time getting things covered under your warranty anyways even if you didn't mod your mustang. Fight that battle when the time comes (hopefully it won't)
