Tri ax Shifter
I ordered a Steeda Tri-ax today, (Delivery 2 weeks). The mtg holes on the factory shifter come in from the BOTTOM, so it will be a little different to install. At least it will be clean under there B)

I'm curious as to why you're replacing it. Isn't the OEM shifter a B&M Ripper?

A side by side comparison, along with pics for the install would be great. $250 is hard to digest for me though. But I do look forward to your results. Thanks!
BTW, Steeda offers a Urethane bushing kit for the stock shifter...it should tighten things up and take out some of the slop. For those that don't want to spend $250 on a new shifter, the bushing kit is only $30.
I can tell you that replacing the 05 shifter is definatly more involved that the prevoius models. We installed a prototype Hurst shifter in my 05GT yesterday. You have to remove three bolts from the bottom of the car and one bolt from the shift rod. We were able to work the old shifter up through the inside of the car so we did not have drop the driveshaft. In retrospect, it probably woud have been quicker to drop the driveshaft.
The shifting is greatly improved. I really didn't realize how sloppy the stock shifter is untill I felt the Hurst unit. The throw is shortened substantually and the handle is moved about 1/2 inch closer to the drivers seat.

Would like to get some info on that hurst shifter, I'm looking to get a new shifter as well but would like to go the retro look and put a chrome hurst shifter stick on (along with a t handle)Can the hurst unit accept one of their hurst sticks (like part number 5388009?
Can you give us any idea when they might be available?
thanks much
I just recieved the Tri-Ax today, (Will install this weekend). The directions do say to seperate the two driveshafts for access. It will be an involved install. I'll post later in the week on it.
I got into the shifter install today........I've got a few pics and comments on it. First off as you can see in the pics, the Tri-ax is a much more ridgid assembly than the stock (Fabricated sheet and tube steel), where Triax is aluminum billet. I believe the factory unit is FOMOCO not aftermarket (B&M) just by appearance.
You will need to drop driveshaft to install, beyond that, it's straigtforward with very good instructions. I 've got about 3 hours in it including rounding up tools and whatnot
. A good set of sockets with extensions , a rubber mallet and screwdriver, and a few end wrenchs should do it for tools. the bushings supplied for the shift arm were snug...I was able to "Massage" them out with a reamer. The factory shaft may have had a paint buildup on it also, no biggie. The assembled unit has a noticeably shorter throw than stock but a HUGE improvement in the shift feel....Much firmer and positive in the throws. The "Slop" from old unit is gone
One piece of bad news at the end is the shift ext where the **** attaches was the wrong one for the 05, so I'll have to call Steeda Monday to get that straightened out. I highly recommend this mod for those who like a "Precise and positive" shifter feel. B)
