Does the shifter "stick" bolt to unit? I'm looking to put on an old retro chrome hurst stick. I wonder if I could mod this shifter?
Can you take a picture of the unit installed for us please?
And Possably without the boot installed as well?

Thank for the info....and the picture you posted!

Bullitman, can you measure the total throw at the handle with the triax installed?
The "throw" from 1st to 2nd with the Triax is Just under 2" I measured it this way.......From top of console, I measured back from the console opening in front with shifter in Ist, then movewd shifter to second and measured from opening. Someone might want to check a stock unit. It definitly is shorter by feel than stock. All side slop is "Gone! I'll take a pic later with it installed.

Just got back from a test drive and........WOW What a difference If you like crisp, positive short throws you will LIKEY!!. There is some small increase in noise and you will "Feel " some noise in your hand when shifting, but this is normal for any aftermarket shifter I've used. I highly recommend this mod for the money!

Thanks for the info and pics.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't want leather.
How do you like the cloth seats?

Jason

You're welcome Jason, I've liked the cloth for several cars now. It's a bit stiffer and "Holds" you in place better than the leather IMHO.

Yes the stick bolts to the shifter upright. You have a choice of two positions. I put in the lower position and it puts the shifter a bit higher , about 1/2 inch than the stock. also the stick has a bend to it, so you can put it "Back" or "Forward".

One more thing, mine came with the wrong "Stick" for the 05. Make sure you have them check that......Maybe mine was just an oversight.

I noted tools and time involved earlier in the thread..........Scale of 1-10 with 1 easiest a 5 IMO. Nothing special in tools required, a swivel, metric sockets etc. You will have to drop driveshaft but it's no biggie. You do have to put the unit in and take it out twice.

My thoughts exactly.
Until Ford gives us better bolstering, I'll take the cloth.

Jason

BTW, your car has got me questioning my color choice.

Hey Guys, How does the stock shifter boot come out and do you need to lift up the console?

Unscrew the shifter ball(ccw)
The top boot just pulls off .......fingers around the edges and pull up . The lower boot (On the tunnel) can be pulled out the same way.

Just returned from test drive of my new Steeda shifter. It's everything I hoped it would be.
:worship: Bullittman did an excellent job of describing this mod. I can't think of anything to add, except that my stock shift **** didn't fit either.

Great Walt....... They will be sending out the proper stick in a few days. I do notice a slight "Thrumming" at cruise...about 70 in 5th. Are you getting that?

I didn't notice any "thrumming" at 70.
It is much more mechanical sounding than the stock shifter, but that only adds to the retro muscle car experience. But it is quiet unless I stir it up.
 did you put any grease on the brass bushings?
