Tremec Magnum XL 6 Speed Installed
Last week I was in and around the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex getting my new transmission installed. To get off the subject a tad, If there is a recession, you sure wouldn't know it by driving around there. Oh the sea of humanity.
As usual I had Brenspeed do the work, but this time is was at Brenspeed's new location in Cedar Hill Texas.
I dropped the car off on Tuesday evening with Don and Cliff. These guys are awesome and treat you with the same enthusiasm and helpfulness I received in Indiana. They are very knowledgeable and will answer any of your questions without even the hint of "You're bothering me". They genuinely care and like to talk cars/parts. Real car guys.
They installed the Magnum XL with a FRPP stainless steel clutch line, Act clutch, Exedy flywheel, Dynotech one piece drive shaft, Prothane motor mounts and even re-bled and redid my break fluid since they saw that it needed it. They also wired the reverse lockout to the brake switch, so I have to push the brake in to get it into reverse.
I received the car back mid afternoon Thursday and then proceeded to break in the clutch and get 400 miles on the transmission so I could have them change the oil in the transmission.
I was told what to expect with the new clutch, with bedding it in and getting everything mated together.
So I drove all night around the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, putting on 400 miles. I did stop and go, freeway and everything in between.
So, as for the transmission, it is the smoothest and easiest to use. I wish my mustang had come with it before. There are no labored shifts. As other people have said, you can literally shift with 1 finger.
I have had to get used to the shift gate a little bit. On 2 or 3 occasions I went from 5th to 4th instead of 6th and from 3rd to 4th instead of 3rd to 2nd. I wasn't beating on the car to begin with, so I didn't over rev or lug.
I was sticking to the plan of not going ever 4k rpm and 1000 miles on everything before I hammered on it.
I got the 2.97 1st gear trans, and glad I did. It doesn't lug in 1st when leaving. It might of if I had got the 2.66 1st. I still have the stock 3.73 rear that came with my Bullitt.
There is a little more NVH but HOTROD so I don't care.
There were no issues with this build and any minor concern I had was addressed with knowledge and after 1100 miles this thing is great.
Sorry, I didn't take any pictures. I was busy doing other things while I was down there and didn't hang around a whole lot at the shop.
FWIW their shop has two 2 post lifts in the main garage and they have a above ground Dynojet in another bay. The shop is very clean, just like Brenspeed in Indiana.
If you want it done right, I assure you, you can trust these guys do to it.
