Track tires

What is a good tire for lapping. I have a stock 18" wheel. I am not sure about the width. Its either 8" or 8.5"
So far I went twice to the track. The 3000 miles original tires need to be changed.

Thanks,

You have 235/50R18 KDWS Tires on your car now?

I suppose it depends if your looking for an actual track tire or are you looking for a tire to use on both street and track and if your looking for a dual purpose tire, what is the weather like in your area?

I am looking for a street and track tire. You are right about what I currently have as tires (235/50R18 KDWS) I live Washington state. There is always a possibility of raining in the summer. However I would like to get track tires but I would have to buy wheels and another set of street tires. If I can get a could deal I might take the later option.

Do you know if the stock wheels are 8" wide or 8.5" wide?

Thanks

check out the ultra high performance and max performance tires, any one of these will produce an improvement in handling over the 235/50R18's and should wear better at the track since they wont be wiggling all around under hard cornering and beleive it or not, they are a pound lighter in weight ( well the BFG KDWIIs atleast, anytime you reduce unsprung weight it will help)

I wish the Michelin PS2 was available in a 255/45R18 but they aren't however since the New Cadi CTS is using a 235/50R18, there is hope

I ran Eagle F1 GS D3's in the heat, and in the rain on the road course and those things stuck like glue!
Factory wheel 8.5" 255/45/18

Before I decided on a more track oriented streetable tire (Nitto 555RII), I was set on either the Kumho Ecsta MX or the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1. The Kumho is a proven street/track tire that takes the heat great and is **** sticky for a streetable tire.

The Dunlop is the new kid on the block and is getting great reviews. Just as sticky as the Kumho, holds up to the heat, but has much stiffer sidewalls for more responsive handling.

Thanks,
I looked up the tire on the internet and located a local store (tire rack) The tire size matches exactly the wheel size. I wish I could go wider. Later I might get a set of tites and wheels just for the track. Thanks for the info.

I also found at Bridgestone the following tire:

Potenza RE050A Pole Position RFT

It is almost identical in price. However, it is available. Do you recommend that tire?

Thanks,

I know another member has them and really likes them.

The F1 GS D3's should be available. I show plenty in stock in Goodyears Memphis warehouse.

You could also try the F1 Supercars as they are coming down in price lately (GT500 tire)
For example the GS D3 cost me 233 a piece. and the Supercars 125 a piece.
Plus rebates start May 3rd for 50 bucks(set) on either F1 I believe.
