Torque Converter installed finally

I think I have had this for over a year, and it is now installed! It is the TCI Streetfighter 3000rpm stall converter and it's pretty fun to scoot around town with. Of course now I wish I had gone with a higher one, but when the blower gets on in maybe 6 months it will flash higher.

I'd like to thank Transmission Physician for installing it, they did an excellent job. I was always under the impression that the headers would have to be removed in order to get the transmission out, so I bought new gaskets and was quoted $500+fluids. They did it without dropping the headers, which made me really happy because it saved me 150 bucks

When I left their shop I stopped the car, floored it, and burned all the way to 4th gear! Big cloud of smoke!! It doesn't do that now though, because as soon as I got home I put on the MT's I had received yesterday. If i powerbrake to 3000, it will squeak the drag radials, and mashing it from a stop it just takes off I'll put some pictures up tomorrow when the sun comes out.

Next thing is gears.. probably the monday after next. I am gonna go with 4.10's instead of the 3.73's. Might as well go big. If I can hit the track this week I will. I wonder what the times will be now.

That sounds awesome! A converter is the best thing to do to an auto, IMO. Good choice and congrats!

What's the stock stall? I need a new one very shortly, as it's starting to slip quite noticably on the dyno after the blower install.

I'm not sure what stall speed I want/need, the car won't see a track, just pleasure driving and very short drives to work and back.

I have a PI 3000 stall multi-disk on order, anyone have one of these? I have heard from a few folks that they are real good.

How different does the car drive now that you have a 3000 stall for daily driving?

The stock stall speed is 2550 so going to 3000 will give you a big increase off the line. I think it's the best mod you can do with an auto. In regards to it effecting driveability there is nothing to worry about as it's a lockup converter. In the old days before lockup converters we had to be concerned with high stall converters generating excessive heat during street driving but with with modern lockup units this is not as issue as they contain a clutch that locks the converter solid above a predetermned speed. The best of both worlds!

The TCI stuff has been a big hit lately, even with us! That's awesome! With those MT's as well, you should have cut quite a bit off of your 60ft.

I went with the same TCI about 18 months ago and I've nver had a compaint about it...makes the accelerator a little mushy, but it's negligible...

andy...aren't you going to tell them how fast you went at the track?
he embarassed me on thursday night. my car was running like crap for some reason and here comes andy driving in off the street and runs 12.60's !!!! my car was dying on top end and only ran 12.80's that night. i finally got it straight on sunday and ran some 12.40's but i felt like crap that night. good thing i didn't line up next to him for a match race.
keep it up andy and i'm going to have to start spraying mine or something to stay in front of you.

Mine arrived today. Interesting color... but darn if this is probably going to be the strongest part of my car now, haha!

BassMoBill: I don't fully understand exactly how torque converters work accept from what I have read, but from what I have read and do understand, I think a better torque converter is a more efficient transfer of torque, and a quicker 'slip' to the more powerful RPMs at full throttle launch (depending on how it's built). Mine's being replaced because the stock one is slipping, if it weren't slipping I'd probably wouldn't even replace it, as I don't race.

A torque converter allows you to launch from a higher RPM. Basicly it slips until a higher RPM so you launch with more torque 3000 it good for the street if it is a drag car they go higher.

Hehe yeah, that night was a 12.67 @ 104, the mph was low because I ran out of gas at the end!! crazy! I cut a 1.77 60' that night, my best so far. It smacked my head into the headrest and still does! good thing i got a helmet now

I had a Fuddle Racing Converter installed in my 07 GT automatic coupe last year when the car was still naturally aspirated. Dropped my 60', 330', and 1/8 mile ET's by 3 tenths!!! I chose their highest stall speed offering (3800 rpm's) to get as close to peak torque for the engine as I could (4500 rpm's per Ford).

I've since had a Vortech V2 supercharger installed, so the stall speed is much higher now at 4800 rpm's (more engine torque will cause stall speeds to increase), but this is perfect as my car makes its peak torque just over 5000 rpm's now.

So, car is 100% stock engine, exhaust, and suspension. Only mods are the stall converter, 4.10 gears, mild non-intercooled supercharger, and drag radials and my heavy, well-optioned GT automatic runs 7.90's @ 90+ mph in the 1/8 mile and 12.30's at 111+ mph in the 1/4 mile.
