What have folks seen for a top speed for the GT Convertible? Coupe I believe is 150mph. Also heard that the GT coupe/convertible has a air build up problem at high speed under the hood, thats why the new GT 500 has scoops in the hood, true, folks encountered this?

Top speed is 143mph. There is a problem with airflow in the engine bay. The hood blew right off the Grand-Am car, and it had four hood pins!

Whoah - maybe I should get hood pins if I plan to open track mine then...
I hadn't heard this - thanks.

Almost lost my hood the other day. I was only going 80 mph but there was a 50 mph cross wind. I was watching the hood wobble up to 1/2 " at in the center (near the edge of the hood). I slowed down because I watched that race (mentioned above) and didn't want to lose my hood.

I noticed the hood wobble too - but was able to tone it down quite a bit by raising the two center rubber hood bumpers about a turn or so.....they were adjusted too low from the factory and weren't even touching the hood......take a look where they are supposed to seat against the inside of the hood and see if yours are making contact or not. Look at the outside bumpers and you can tell by the bumper imprint left in the seat if it is contacting or not.

I've experienced it at high speeds too, it's defineately made worse with head/crosswinds.

I'm glad I put in hood pins! But I have never seen my hood wobble, but I have only taken it up to 130mph.

Sorry for the posting in the wrong group, my oops. I believe the convertible's top speed will be down a few miles per hour from the coupe due to diff air flow over the body. The responses to the post do make me want to look into hood pins when my GT Convertible get to Germany where I'm stationed. Reason to install the pins is that I can do serious high speed runs on the autobahn legally here, don't want to have an accident from a hood coming off.
