Tire upgrade/Anybody have any opinions on the Kuhmo Ecsta SPT 255 50 17 tires
I want to upgrade my tires on the stock bullit rim. I want a good looking tire that performs great, wet or dry. Also want it to make "noise and smoke" when doing the occasional burnout.
These Kuhmos ecsta SPT , 255 50 17's seemed to do well in the reviews on tire rack.

Any opinions and guidance wouild be appreciated!
Thanks...Dave

David, I have really been happy with my Nitto NT450 255/50-17 tires. They wear good and the traction has been very good. Stuck like clue when I was on a road course last year. Can't speak for the smoke thing because I have never done a burnout in my car!
How do you like your k-member brace with torque limiters?

I've had SPTs on my 2002 Miata (205/50/15) for over a year now. Superb dry traction and amazing in the wet. We drove back to PA in rain (heavy lots of times) from an event in Asheville, NC. No hydroplaning at all even with a lightweight Miata at 60-70+ MPH.
I had Kumho MXs on before that. SPT grip is almost as good but much better in the wear department. I only got about 15K out of the MXs but judging by the wear on the SPTs so far, I expect 23K might be possible.
As long as you don't run them once it gets cold (around freezing) I think you'll really like them.

Would you get the 450's 0ver the 555's...what is the difference anyway.
I like the K brace a lot, also looks pretty cool

While maybe not quite as stiff as the Kumho MX (several time SCCA Solo STS National Champion tire) The SPT turn in is sharp and the everyday ride is a little better than the MX. My car is a little tighter shocked that most Miatas so I needed a little more give in the tire.
When we were at the NC event on a run through the back mountain roads, the runleader from the sponsoring Miata club was in a supercharged 97 and I kept up with him no problem, but we did loose the other 15 people on the run.
As I said in my other post I was really impressed with them in the rain. A very nice tire overall especially considering the price.
