Tire Size for Whipple HO Kit

I'm looking to purchase the Whipple HO kit and I am wondering if the KDW 2 255/45/18 will provide enough traction for the rear? Anyone running this setup?

you'll be fine with that size tire.

I get great traction with 265/35/20 tires...

So it's not necessary to go for that 10 inch with 285s on the back when you go FI?

I have Falken 285's on my rear and they spin like crazy in first and second and I start fish tailing. I have to ease up on the throttle or I go no where ...

So it sounds like it depends on the driver.

Ya, I would say it depends on the driver and the type of tire you get. Width really doesn't matter if you get a tire that has a crappy traction rating to begin with.

Slightly, but its just whos gonna admit it or not If I went twinscrew I would definently try to go with the widest wheel and some good rubber along with some decent suspension, that would get you off to a good start

Only thing I don't like about the staggered setup though is that you can't fully rotate the tires front to back...and I'm sure a good tire ain't cheap.

I still mull around the idea of either a 9 front and 10 rear, or just 9s all around with a Whipple setup...not sure what is adequate.

Just go 275/40 all around, add some minor suspension componets and call it a day

I'm running 255 on the street with my Whipple, as long as your smart about your shifts you will be ok. don't even think about giving it full throttle if the road is wet cause you will be asking for big trouble. and no power, speed shifts.

If you want to do that then you beter go it a drag radial. with the drag radial you have more of a safety factor.

just my .02 cents

if you are running a stock gear ratio you will be fine. traction issues get worse the higher the ratio you go. i have 3.31's and have some what of an issue in first, but once i go to second it is gone. if i go to the kdw's 255's im sure 1st would be ok, but am not to sure now since i got my car dyno tuned and am putting down 472/447

Give me a call when you're looking for the kit. I can set you up with a few references for our whipple tunes, install, etc. Good luck!

+1, that's exactly what I did (you got the idea from me didn't you Matt ) and overall the traction could be better for sure but I'm happy, and can still rotate tires. I run Nitto 555's.
