Tire Question

It's time for me to get some new tires for the Stang. I have the stock Pirellis right now (235/55-17) and I was wondering what you guys are replacing your stockers with. I really like the Nitto NT555 and the BFG KDWII, but they don't have any sizes even close to the stock size. Snow isn't an issue but wet weather performance is kind of important. I want wider tires than stock, and they have to be close in diameter, because as of right now I have no tuner.

I have had great experiences with BOTH the Nittos and the BFG KDW IIs NT

but I don't know about sizes that fit the stock 17s

I could just say get 18s but that might not be in your budget

Tire Rack is full of usefull information like specifications by tire brand and model( lets you choose the tire that fits your wheel and has the correct rolling diameter) and tire test results like...

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...et?perfType=EP

And their price is usually lower (even with shipping) than compared to buying locally and paying local tax. If you get wheels at the same time, they'l mount and balance them for free.

Unfortunately, they don't carry Nitto tires but I'm sure you can find a good set of Goodyear, BFG, Khumo or Firestones that will suit your needs.

I think I'm gonna get the KDW2s from tire rack but I have one question...well two. The first being how wide is the 18" optional polished rim? I can't find it anywhere and thought it'd be in the brochure or my invoice for the car but nope. The second is I was also told I should go for a 245 or 255/45/18 size instead of the 235/50/18s. If I know whether or not the rim is 8" wide, I'll go for the 255/45/18s with the y rating. Bigger footprint.

Definitelly go for the 255/45/zr18's. The KDW's are a huge improvement over the stock pirelli's as far as traction (wet and dry) and handling. They are a summer tire though, so no snow or icy conditions. They are louder when cruising too (doesn't bother me, but wanted to let you know). Mine are on Fanblades which are 8.5 inches wide and they fit great. I think the bullets are also 8.5 inches wide but am not positive.

Well that almost tells me haha. Sounds like I'd be safe with the 255/45/18s. I gotta wait a day or two before I order them... stupid credit cards.

Thanks guys. I think I've decided on the Nittos. I just have to figure out where to buy them from. I would like to order from Discount Tire, but there are no stores close to me

Right to your door...

Oh, and you won't be dissapointed with the Nitto 555's, either!

Kumho Ecsta ASX is alright for stock horsepower, much better than the pirelli's, but I'm finding out they can't really handle much above 270 rwhp. Its kind of frustrating when you slide into the next lane on an agressive 1-2 shift. I'd avoid them and go with something better. Shame too, they're only $110 a piece.
