Tillman vs. American Muscle tunes?

Tillman SCT X3 with three custom tunes = $379.99. Three additional custom tunes = $139.99.

American Muscle SCT X3 with unlimited custom tunes = $379.99 (as long as you purchase 'new parts that require the need of a new tune from AmericanMuscle.com').

1. Worth the (potential) extra $$ to go through Tillman?

2. Are Tillman tunes 'better' than American Muscle?

3. Is there a need for more than three custom tunes? If not, then cost is the same.

4. Is customer support better with American Muscle vs. Tillman? (I have read a lot about Tillman being swamped and consequently being slow with turnaround on customer support.)

Thanks!

If you're only comparing those two, I would go with Tillman....... hands down! No contest IMO.

There are a few shops that really specialize in S197 platforms IMO. Tillman, Brenspeed, Bamachips, Modular Depot, VMP, RET, are just a few of them. Who knows who's making the tune files for American Muscle? That's my 2 cents anyway.

Tillman, Brenspeed or Bamachips. Heard good things about VMP also. Bama also gives you free tunes even for equipment you didn't buy from him. That's a big plus in my opinion

Why would you need six custom tunes? Get the three and have adjustments made when needed. Or just buy your parts from them and get the one tune adjusted.

As Tom and Len said, Tillman, Brenspeed and Bama seem to be the big three. I did a dyno on all three and they were all very close.

Thanks guys.

I'm hoping Santa brings me a Tillman SCT X3 and 4.10 gears. That would be so awesome!

Problem is, 'He knows when you've been bad or good..."

American Muscle is a great company and I have friends that work there, but they just a warehouse/retailer. There is no dyno on site and the tunes are just modified canned tunes from SCT. Tillmans is a real speedshop with a real dyno and a real tuner (CR) developing/writing the tunes. For many items (rims/tires/etc) American Muslce is my first choice, but tunes/tuners are one thing I would not buy from them. Go with Tillmans on that one.

Agreed, I pretty much buy all my stuff from there, great place! However, Tillman and the others mentioned have the know how when it comes to the tunes. IMO, you'd be crazy not to get a tune from one of those guys.

Anybody semi-local for custom dyno tunes? They do need to be good, and have 3v experience but you are better off with tuning to YOUR car. I'm lucky having excellent close by.
