Throttle Body Question

Should the butterflies completely close? Mine don't close 'flush' or at 90 degrees, they're just slightly open when fully closed. (if that makes sense) Is this normal?

Still trying to fix my idle and stalling problem... stock TB.

Would a picture help?

TIA

I believe that slightly-open bit is the idle position. Don't take my word for it, I'm no expert, but I believe the idle set screw keeps them open just a bit.

Just to clarify, it's off of my car, sitting in my kitchen. Slightly open would make sense, but I'm trying to troubleshoot.

Slightly open is normal. I haven't ever looked that closely on the Mustang but most throttlebodies have a set screw to maintain a slight gap. This is NOT the idle adjustment and should not be changed.

I was having the same idle & stalling problems. I did everything like cleaning the TB, checked all the vacuum lines etc.

What finally fixed the problem was that I replaced the TPS sensor. Have not had a single problem since then. You can get replacement ones from the dealer for around $75.00.

I say go that route after you clean the TB.

well if it closed completely at idle it would kill the engine...

no air = no run

That's what I figured, I just didn't know if it was supposed to have the ability to close all the way...

How do I test the TPS?

Not sure how to test it (you might try hooking up a electrical tester and see if the voltage goes up/down or spikes), but when I talked to the part guy @ local dealer I asked him if I could return the part if it doesn't fix the problem & he said ok.

I say get one & see.
