Another vote for the flows!

I can't wait for my O/R H from Brenspeed though!

They are at least as heavy as the stock ones.

Hey guys, i'm thinking of upgrading my exhaust on my auto gt. However I want to be sure I get the best sound. One of my friends drive a pretty much stock chevy silverado with the 4.8 I beleive engine. He put a flowmaster super 40 and it sounds like some serious muscle truck. I like the sounds you hear like on a 70's mustang or camaro. I really don't like the racey light hum sound or high pitched vroom sound. I like the gurgly, rough sound. In later model year cars (mid 90's and and above) I've noticed it more in camaro's than mustang's. Any why do you guys suggest I do to achieve that sound?
This is kind of offtopic, but part of the reason you hear this difference, IMO is because our engines are SOHC, while the camaros and GM V8's are OHV pushrod engines. There's a certain distinct sound to pushrod V8's. Old Mustangs also had pushrod engines too.

I get all theses mixed signals lol. On the net, the clips I hear mostly sound like crap to me, I find it hard to find one that actually sounds like a truck or old muscle car. They all sound winey to some extent. If I were to do nothing more than remove the stock muffler and add the SLP loudmouth pipes, would it sound like crap? Cuz some people say they do if you don't do other stuff to it. It looks like a ton of people recommend just replacing the stock mufflers with the flowmaster 40s. I just want the gurgly sound without anything even resembling rice, popping or farting. I want gurgle gurgle gurgle not vroooom or zoooom. lol :-)

It is going to be tough to match that sound exactly. Keep in mind that the muffler is the last part of the exhaust also. It is easier to get that sound will the mufflers being up stream with more tail pipe. I have Long tube headers and no cats. Makes the exhaust about double or tripple the sound.

I'm not trying to sell a product but with only SLP's and no other mod's the cars sounds bad azz. Most other aftermarket exhaust modify the sound somewhat to make it deeper and smoother. Thats cool, alot of people dig that sound. The SLP's just let that great raw v-8 sound out without changing the quality of sound, just sounds much louder.

Dude, this is what you want:
www.jbaheaders.com/Sound Files/05mustang_rev.mp3
There is a space in the URL above, so you might have to copy/paste the whole thing into your browser. That is the only sound clip that I have heard that I really like. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of money: longtube headers, uncatted H pipe, mufflers.

Wow, I checked the site and the prices I'm seeing are like 1,100 and $500 for headers, and didn't see mufflers. So this set up is like $2,000?

JBA long tube headers - $700 - $1300
JBA offroad H pipe - $225
JBA Evol Mufflers - $325

I just can't pay that much for just sound (and a measly 18 hp). ...but I agree with you about all the current axle backs on the market. I'm just not down with that "fake base" sound that they all make. Sounds like someone blowing a tuba to me.

Man I just picked up a used 05 flowmaster axle back kit for 180 and it's killing me looking at them and not being able to put them on. The snow will be falling soon and I know the chrome pipes will rust. They will be summer only mufflers.

Till March I wait.

Not in my opinion... that is exactly what I have right now.

flowmasters have drobne. i will never use them again after ht 94 tbird. the SLPS sound the best in my opinion. no drone, best sound at WOT and you can get them quiet when the cops are around. overall the best package

One thing on the SLP's... if you get those, keep your stock h-pipe with the cats. I don't recommend hi-flow cats, and especially not an off-road mid-pipe, with the SLP Loudmouths. I tried that and didn't like it a bit. IMO, the stock h-pipe gives a great rumble... so take off the mufflers and put on the SLP Loudmouths to accentuate that, and you should have a real nice old-school muscle car sound. The other option would be some LT headers, off-road h-pipe and some Flowmasters or Borlas. You will probably have more of a throaty 'lope' sounds with that setup, but will also have more drone is my guess.

They are NOT chrome. The tips are Stainless Steel (see 'Flow' link).. You will be fine in the winter. Besides, how long can you possibly just look at them without the urge to just slap them on??

Flows

Forgot to mention... I ordered the Cervini's side exhaust system.. My flows will be going up for sale when the new kit comes in.. For those interested, just keep it in mind..
