Hey Guys,

I just finished installing the B&M shifter tonight. It kicks hiney! Shifting is nice and short and firm. Install was easy also. The stick is a little higher though. But I think I'll get used to that.

But I have a question that wasn't really pointed out in the installation guide. At the pivot point (bottom of the shifter where it attaches to the rod that shifts the gears in the tranasmission) should this be lubricated? It is very fine polished steel and looks as if it should be lubricated. Did any of you lubricate this?

Also, how tight should that be? I just snugged it down a bit and rechecked it after driving around for a bit. I was a little concerned that if it is not tight enough then it would come apart and I'd be stuck somewhere not being able to shift gears. The installation guide says in BOLD to NOT OVERTIGHTEN.

I think I'm the only one else that has the B&M shifter as well, I've had it installed for about a week now and I love it, as far as I know, it did not mention anything about it being lubricated, cause I think the one part that attached to it was already lubricated or somewhat lubricated. I had "Cheese302" more under the car installing that part than I did, maybe he can tell you more on it.

Gotta love the B&M, its great!!! It Kicks!!!

I believe there was a plastic bushing inside the shifter in the position you are talkng about. I think due to the plastic, it is probably self lubricating, and does not need to be greased or lubricated at all. Also most ofrms of grease or oil would probably attract dust and dirt there by screwing up the motion of the shifter.

When we pulled the old shifter out there was no lubrication on that pivot.

as for the over tightening issue. I think due to the plastic bushings and all, the tightening of the shifter results in a stifer feel due to the torque on that bolt. The reason i think they said not to overtighten is so that the shifter does not bind up on you while driving.

i hope this could help, but i think a phone call/ email to B&M would be a good move.

Hey guys, I have been looking into this mod. Can you let me know how much it was, and were you picked it up from? How much different from stock? I hear this is the same shifter in the Ford GT, and I have driven that car, and love the shift feel. Very direct, and solid. Thanks for the advice and help. .

I just talked to B&M this morning. They say the bushings DO NOT need any lubrication.

Hey paul, thanks a bunch for the video and write up. The difference was night and day. Looks like I may be adding one of these once my car get here, and gets a few miles on her. Looks like its easy to do. The videos were a great touch. Thanks again.
