Those with 4.10's, need your opinions

I just bought my Ford Racing 4.10's today and have an appointment with my mechanic for the install on Saturday the 17th. I can't wait to see/feel the difference these gears will have on my car. With those of you with the 4.10's, what were your first impressions of the gears when you drove with them for the first time. I would like to know what I have to look forward to. Thanks.

Awesome! The first time I drove it with the 4.10's it felt like the car was alive at the bottom end. It was almost like the first time driving it with a CAI and tune, something just wakes up in the car.

as far as what it would feel like, its one of the best mods you can do to this car and not have it break the bank too bad. mine are great!

i think they advertise a master installation kit for the gear, did you get that as well? its all the little odds and ends that are recommend when installing.

I was a little apprehensive at first, not wanting to romp on it until I had put some miles on it. BUT - a couple days later, holy crapola. I had a buddy in my car who often car pools with me, and he was even like "whoa - big difference in torque!" The car is just brutal off the line ........ if you haven't already addressed the suspension mods - you'll have to after the 4.10's.

Enjoy.

Gears are a torque multiplier, so installing 4.10's will feel like your car has way more torque. I went from 3.31's to 4.10's in my 07 GT automatic, which is a 24% increase in gearing. That is the equivalent of staying with 3.31 gears, but increasing engine torque from 320 lb ft (stock rating) to 396 lb ft, which is huge! So, trust all of us who've done the swap, your car will feel so much stronger off the line. Plus, you'll rip through the gears much quicker, and 5th gear will finally become somewhat usable for acceleration!

I can pass cars at highway speed in 5th gear now.

But they are right it took Steeda LCA's, FRPP springs, Tokico shocks, and LCA relocation brackets to really put that rubber to the road.

At first it was easy to light up the tires with the stock 235's, then when I went to stickier 285's I still had wheel hop issues. So with the suspension ugrades everything is hooks up really good now.

What formula did you use for this? I'm curious because I'm about to pick up some 3.90's

If you're referring to the bearing kit; "NO". My car doesn't have that many miles on it. You should only use the kit if you have high milage on the rear end. As for shims, my mechanic has lots.

I'm hoping I won't have that problem with my 295/35/19's on 10" rims. I wanted to upgrade to steaper gears cuz my rear tires/wheels are really heavy and they're probably straining my stock 3.55's. If I do encounter rear wheel hop, that gives me good reason to upgrade my rear suspension. We'll see what happens.

Sounds like you need 4.10's to get those 295's moving quicker. Should work out nicely.

I had my 4.10s installed 3.5 years ago and have never looked back!

Honestly, I can't even remember what stock gears felt like, but I shudder at the thought. Nothing better than a torquey launch!
