Is there an air silencer?
Sorry folks, just topped 600 miles on the car, so I haven't gotten into it to check. My old 90GT, and for that matter every other car I've owned had an air silencer or some sort of restriction before the air cleaner. Removing this would at a minimum increase the "throatiness" of the engine, best case actually add some additional HP / seat of the pants feel.
I had a Lincoln Mark VIII and removing the air silencer was like buying a new car. Completely different feel. Does the 2005 Mustang GT have this type of setup? I even searched and I haven't even seen anyone discuss it.
Thanks for the replies!

Good question - my last 4 cars have all had them - I checked and my airbox doesn't appear to have the silencer - I can't really remember though as I removed it for the JLT/CAI some time ago.....that's ususally the 1st thing I remove!
there is an in-line vapor filter past the air box that restricts flow. mustang enthusiast magazine did an article on this. they removed it and gained five rwhp. there is a small restricter just before the airbox. i removed both for better airflow and sound.
on my automatic, there is what appears to be a short squarish tube directing air from the wheel well into the air box... and there is the Hydrocarbon Trap (HCT) which was referenced above.
I took out the HCT and put in a K&N drop-in filter. I would imagine the "silencer" (should we start calling this square tube a silencer?) might hurt flow a little, but it doesn't appear to be as restrictive as the silencer on my '96 was

Roger on the hydrocarbon trap, well aware of that piece. The air "silencer" on this car sounds to be not as restrictive as in years past and in other vehicles. I'll poke around this weekend on it, but if noone else has found it to be a big deal yet, then I'm sure I won't be breaking any new ground. The car has been out for almost 9 full months now, I think everyone here has sequentially numbered and cataloged every nut and bolt on the car at this point.
