Temp Gauge not working

I have an O6 GT with a CAI and sometimes when I crank the car up the temp gauge remains in its position as if the motor is off. Sometimes it will read exceptionally high around the 3/4 mark. Most of the time it just doesn't work at all. Any ideas on what i can check myself?

thanks

Are you sure you don't have an air pocket in the cooling system?

Even when it's working right, it's still a POS idiot needle. It will stay in the middle from 180 degrees up to 230 degrees.

The only time the needle will move is if the car overheats, it will peg and turn red. Otherwise it stays in any position it wants. It's a dummy gauge

If you get a trans temp guage make sure to tap it directly into the pan. I had tapped mine into the trans lines and then it was useless. I was reading temps coming back from the motor and they were always in the 210ยบ-225ยบ range.

They are uselss anywhere except tapped driectly into the trans pan.
