Question,

I was playing around with the shifter to see if it moves through the gears and now it seams to be stuck on park. When I pull the latch in to release it wont do anything. Has anyone experiences this before they installed it?

Is it installed in the car or are you just playing around with it out of the box?? Because if you are it won't move from park unless it is in the car and hook to the car's electrical system. You need to have your foot on the brake to shift the stock shifter right???? Same thing with the TCI.

I was playing around with it out of the box and pushed it into park and now it is stuck and the only thing I could do was move the leaver on the bottom back and forth but i put it back in its original position...

Thanks for the info Scott.. Haha I am an idiot for doing that but when it goes in Sunday i am assuming it will release like you said... My common sense about putting the foot on the brake to release the shifter from park was out the window..

Ohhh bad move. That shifter was the single best mod you can do to your car. The look, feel, movement is infrikkincredible. Changes the car dramatically.

Hope you can do it soon. P.S, there is a tab where you can release it if you lock it in park while playing around with it before installing it.

Agreed, Brenspeed is great.

The TCI shifter does have a fatal flaw with the park lockout mechanism. Unlike the factory park that uses a solenoid that moves the lockout arm, the TCI one seems to use a solid state relay that releases the lockout arm.

I had to get a second one, and now, I'm hestitant to install it. I know of one guy that carries his stock shifter around incase the shifter gets stuck again.
OUCH ..........

So I have a question. What happens when you're going up through the gears and you get to D? Does it just shift into 5th gear automatically from there since there's no way to select 5th? Or does it just stay in 4th gear?

Hi Mark,

Just as information on the TCI shifter.
Actually it works perfect to simply leave it in, (D) and simply floor it and away you go.
You cannot actually out-shift it trying to do it manually.

Warning, Be sure to touch the Button on the, (Left-Side) of the shifter and, (Turn-Off O/D).

The Btn. here in this picture.

If you just want to play around on the street manually shifting it for fun.
That is OK but on a Drag Strip as I said it will perform Faster leaving it in (D) .........

That is assuming you have a, (Custom-Tune) done that has preset the Shift-Points in Drive, (D).

Hey Tiger,
Agree completely about have a great auto tune and leaving it in drive for the fastest get away. I love my TCI shifter to play around with and it looks awesome but I could never outshift the computer on my best day. Buy this shifter because it looks great and is fun to play around with...not to better your 1/4 times.

I have another question about the TCI. Is the height of the shifter adjustable at all? I've seen pictures where people have replaced the TCI handle with a ball ****. Is the piece that the handle sits on adjustable as far as going up and down? Or is it fixed in place?

It is fixed. It is however removable also. Other have either modified the TCI handle or made other types of handles.

There is, (No-Height) adjustment with the TCI Ratchet Shifter.

Here are a few pics. of it being installed.

TCI shifter problem. Incorrect gear is displayed on shifter

Hi All,

Hopefully this thread is still being followed and someone who has experience with the TCI Street fighter can offer some insight to what is causing the problem I’m seeing and has some suggestions on how to correct it.

First off I purchased the Street Fighter from a guy on Ebay who said he bought it new and never got around to installing it. From what I can tell in regards to anything that indicates it is/was used it shows no signs of ever having been installed or used.

Second, I use a piece of software called Torque on my Android tablet along with an OBDII Bluetooth adapter to show me information about the car and in this case what gear the car is in.

I installed the shifter per the instructions provided on the American Muscle website. After installing the shifter I fired up my tablet and took the car for a test drive. The shifter went into reverse, neutral and drive with no issues. I was also able to ratchet it down to first gear. However, when trying to ratchet the gears up is where I encountered problems. When the shifter showed the car as being in 2nd gear Torque showed the car as being in 1st, when I ratcheted to 3rd, Torque showed it as being in 2nd gear, when ratcheted to 4th (drive), Torque showed it as being in 3rd. To get the car into 4th (drive) I had to shift into neutral then back into 4th (drive).

I called TCI the next day and asked them what could be the problem and he suggested that the shifter cable might not being completely aligned with the shifter. So that evening I pulled the cable off, put the shifter in drive per the instructions and then manually made sure the car was in drive by pulling the cable all the way out and in 3 notches.

Now when I drive the car if I ratchet the shifter down to first gear, then up to 2nd both Torque and the shifter show the car being in 2nd gear, the catch is I have to slam the shifter forward hard, if I don’t the shifter will show the car as being in 2nd, but Torque shows it as still being in 1st. In order to get it into 2nd I have to drop the shifter back to first the slam it into 2nd again. If I slam it hard for each gear, it goes into the correct gear, so it is better, but still not working correctly.

I looked up the information in the Mustang shop manual and on this thread, (see link below) on adjusting the alignment on the shifter cable, but it talks about rotating the cable, which from what I can tell is not designed to be rotated, so I’m not sure how to follow the instructions.

http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=257&viewfil...Adjustment.pdf

Also if you look at the attached picture, you can see it’s just a little bit off and from what I’ve read in the forums, that little bit is enough to throw off the shifting. The questions is how do I adjust the Selector Lever Cable so it and the shifter line up correctly.

I’m guessing I’m missing something simple but for the life of me I can’t figure it out.

Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Gordon

Gordon,

1st off you could simply have a Defective TCI Ratchet Shifter.

The 1st one that went in my 2008 Bullitt Mustang above with all the pictures was {Defective}.

So you could try to adjust it but it was still not going to work correctly.

I doubt TCI is going to Warranty it for you since if I read correctly you bought it off e-bay.

Mine was purchased by an Authorized TCI retailer Brenspeed Engineering and Performance.

So TCI simply replaced it and the 2nd TCI Ratchet Shifter worked perfect the 1st time Brenspeed installed it.

Below is Brenspeed's number if you wish to give them a call and see if they can offer you any assistance.

I don't recall now what the issue was with the 1st TCI Shifter but George Dockery might that was the tech that did the install at Brenspeed.

Thanks Terry,

I considered the possibility that it might be defective, but if it was I would think that removing and playing around with the cable wouldn't have made a difference, but it definitely did.

The OP of this thread talked about adjusting the cable and I can see that it is possible to do so I just can't figure out out to loosen the little slider thingy to allow me to move it to the left or right. Unfortunately, the Mustang shop manual is pretty obtuse on this procedure, so it's not much help. Of course I could spend a couple of hours under the car playing with it, but as I'm in Hawaii, if I break it I'm screwed until I can have a new one shipped out as it's not something any of the local shops have in stock, lol.

Maybe I'll buy a spare and can figure it out by looking at that one with some indoor lighting instead of in the dark with a lousy head lamp, after a long day of work while the mosquitoes try to eat me alive, lol.

Thanks

Gordon
